Zephaniah Walter "Zeph" Pease II

Zephaniah Walter Pease II left the warm embrace of his family Thursday, November 8, 2012, after a long and valiant struggle with complications from a severe fall. Zeph has left a legacy for his family of generosity, kindness, funny stories and corny jokes - all of which are being retold and embellished by his family and many friends.
Zeph was born in New Bedford, Massachusetts, in 1929, to Bryden and Irene Pease, and was the youngest of three brothers -- Bryden and Newsie. Zeph grew up in Louisiana and Mississippi, where he developed his great love of the outdoors, spending much of his youth hunting, fishing and canoeing in the local bayous and rivers. Following his graduation from LSU with a degree in agriculture (Go Tigers!), Zeph joined the U.S. Air Force and served in the Korean War. On his discharge from Service, Zeph met the love of his life in 1953 in San Antonio. How Zeph was able to convince the beautiful Miss Ann Elizabeth Volz to be his bride remains a mystery to all her other suitors, and at times, to himself; however, it was beginning of a long and loving relationship of over 58 years.
Zeph had a long and full career in the life insurance profession, working to help others in providing security and support for their businesses and families. Zeph was active in the Texas Association of Life Underwriters, serving in several offices that culminated in Zeph being elected as president of the Association. Zeph was also very active in the Portland community as a member of Kiwanis and the Chamber of Commerce, and working as a volunteer at the Texas State Aquarium. Sports were a big part of his life, whether driving a golf ball straight (or otherwise) down the fairway or cheering on his Astros and GP Wildcats. Zeph was devoted to the church, with his greatest joy coming from being a long time member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church choir.
Zeph's loving family includes wife Ann, and their seven children and their spouses, Zephaniah Walter Pease III and Judy of Portland, Pam and Rick Cole of Rocheport, MO, Chris and Rebecca Pease of Lacombe, LA, Sue and Worth Carlin of Denver, CO, Mary and Ron Park of Corpus Christi, Joanna and Chris Farwell of Austin, and Claire and Jim Ridley of Corpus Christi. In addition to the 7 children, the Pease family tree continues to bloom with 23 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
There is much that we will all miss with Zeph's passing, his companionship, his eagerness to help all and every one at any time, his fabulous fried shrimp dinners, his unwavering faith and strength, his humor - however, we are all richer for having known him and we will all carry a part of him with us. The family would like to thank all of Zeph's great friends, the church and all that have had him in their thoughts and prayers. We would also like to specifically thank the staff of the Lighthouse Hospice for their professional and loving care of Zeph at our home these past weeks.
Visitation will begin at 5:00 pm, Monday, November 12, 2012 at the Limbaugh Funeral Home with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 PM that same evening.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am, Tuesday, November 13, 2012 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Portland, Texas. Interment to follow at the Palms Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, please send remembrances to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church Works of Charity or to the Lighthouse Hospice.
