William Charles Spoonamore, of Portland, TX, loving father and husband, passed away peacefully in the early morning of August 23rd, 2025 in Corpus Christi, Texas surrounded by his family at the Corpus Christi Medical Center Doctors Regional hospital at the age of 67. He fought bravely and courageously for five years with cancer. He is now in a better place and at eternal rest.
William was known as Bill by the community, Spooney by his Naval buddies, and Zulu by his classmates and high school cross-country team. He was born on October 16th, 1957 in Danville, Kentucky and graduated from Danville High School in 1979. While in school he played football, ran cross-country and track. He worked at Boyle Pharmacy where he would always have candy on him to give it out to his friends.
It was during this time Bill was inspired by his coach, EG Plummer who nurtured him to strive and aim for the better and his dear friend, Laura Anderson Reeves who helped guide him to God.
Bill joined the US Navy to serve his country and see the world. It was during this twenty year career that he was able to travel the globe and make life-long friends with many people both state-side and internationally. It was during one of his deployments to the Philippines where he met his wife, Marelene. His love of traveling remained long after his naval career, and he would continue to travel the world with his family.
Bill always had a kind and loving heart and will forever be remembered for his humor. He loved to joke around, make people laugh, which allowed him to make fast friends everywhere he went. It was natural for him to be able to strike up a conversation with strangers and put people at ease. Bill would put others before himself and help those in need, friends and strangers alike.
Bill is reunited with his mother, Lilian Jean Thompson; sister, Julie Spoonamore Hale; and brother, Brian Keith Spoonamore.
Bill is survived by his beloved wife, Marelene; daughter, Shannes (Nikki); son Aleko (Koko), and sisters Donna Taylor and Linda Spoonamore.
He will be dearly missed everyday by all who loved him. His presence is one that cannot be replaced.
