William Wayne Myers, affectionately known as Bill, passed away peacefully on August 31, 2024, in Mathis, Texas, just one day shy of his 90th birthday. He was born on September 1, 1934, to Lawrence W. and Bonita Reid Myers. Bill was a well-known heavy equipment mechanic in Corpus Christi, Texas, where he dedicated his life to serving the automotive and business mechanical needs of the community alongside his family. For over 75 years, he worked alongside his father, Bear Myers, who ran a wrecker service, and his brother, Paul Myers, also a mechanic. In the 1970s, Bill opened his own shop, Bill Myers Repair, which has continued to operate under his name to this day.
Bill was not only a dedicated mechanic but also a passionate lover of life. He cherished his ranch in George West, Texas, and his home in Mathis, Texas. His truck was a source of pride, but nothing brought him greater joy than his family. He was known for his engaging personality and his unique ability to make those around him feel special, often by giving them a nickname that reflected their character.
Bill is survived by his daughters, Connie (Keith) Cardamone, Crystal (Robert) Hattenbach, and Cathy (David) Pressley; his son, William Dayne (Laverne) Myers; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind his sisters, Eileen Gillmouth, Helen Enlow, and Stella Linton, as well as his brother, Samuel Myers.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Frances Louise Myers; his son, Samuel Wayne Myers; and his siblings, including sisters Dolores and Janet, and brothers Richard, Paul, and Ronnie.
Bill’s presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his legacy as a devoted family man and skilled mechanic will live on through the lives he touched and the generations that followed.
Visitation will be held on Friday, September 6, 2024, from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM at Winsteads' Funeral Home in Mathis, Texas. A funeral service will take place on Saturday, September 7, 2024, at 10:00 AM followed by interment at Sons of Hermann in Orange Grove, Texas at 11:00 AM.
