Deacon Walter Noel Breland, a devoted father, grandfather, servant of faith, and lifelong resident of Corpus Christi, Texas, passed away peacefully on April 17, 2026. Born on October 22, 1941, to parents Walter and Josephine Breland in Corpus Christi, Walter led a life marked by unwavering devotion to God and a strong commitment to his community.
Walter’s spiritual journey was a beacon of kindness and strength, highlighted by his profound faith in God. For over 45 years, he faithfully served as a Deacon in the Diocese of Corpus Christi, following his ordination on May 22, 1977. His ministry was characterized by compassion, guidance, and steadfast dedication, touching countless lives through his service and counsel within the church.
Prior to his religious vocation, Walter proudly served his country as a veteran of the United States Army. His military service reflected the same courage and resilience that he displayed throughout his life, embodying a commitment to duty both in faith and in service to his nation.
Walter’s final days were spent in his beloved hometown of Corpus Christi, where he passed away surrounded by the grace and peace he nurtured throughout his life.
Walter is reunited with his beloved wife, Estefana Breland; son, Joey Breland; great-granddaughter, Kendall; parents; two sisters; and one brother. He leaves his memories to his son, Nathanael (Landra) Breland; daughter-in-law, Margaret Breland; grandchildren, Joshua (Britney) Breland, Corey (Krystal) Breland, Thomas (Becca) Breland, Amanda Breland, Justin (Hailey) Breland, Brendan (Miranda) Breland, Dylan Breland, Chris (Britney) Briseno, and Joshua (Melanie) Briseno.
To honor his legacy, a series of services will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Mathis, Texas. Visitation will begin at 9:30 AM on April 29, 2026, followed by the Holy Rosary at 10 AM, and Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM. Rite of Committal and Interment with Final Military Honors will begin at 1 PM that same day and be held at Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery in Corpus Christi, Texas.
Deacon Walter Noel Breland’s life was a testament to faith, service, and kindness. His spirit endures in the hearts of all who knew him, and his profound impact on the Diocese of Corpus Christi and beyond will not be forgotten. He will be remembered with deep respect and gratitude for a life so well-lived in the service of others and devotion to God.
