Vicenta Hinojosa Godinez

Longtime Mathis resident Vicenta Hinojosa Godinez, 93, died on October 20, 2022 in Corpus Christi Windsor Skilled Nursing surrounded by her family. She was born in Bee County, Texas on April 5, 1929, to Maria Guzman and Jose Hinojosa.

Vicenta grew up in George West, Texas where her family worked in the surrounding area for local ranchers and also followed seasonal farm work throughout Texas.

She met her husband Fernando R. Godinez at a local dance event. Vicenta and Fernando were married in March of 1946. The couple later moved to Mathis where they started their family working along side each other doing seasonal field work. Later the couple started a taxi service in Mathis which they operated during the early 1950’s. Vicenta was a stay at home mom raising seven children while helping her husband operate their taxi business. She also worked as a chauffeur in her father in law's field labor business.

Vicenta was born and raised Catholic. Later, following the death of her husband in 1995, she converted to the Baptist faith.

In addition to her parents, Vicenta is preceded in death by her husband Fernando Godinez, a brother Jose Hinojosa, five sisters Philipa Rodriquez, Jesusa Luna, Evita Basquez, Olaya Perez, and Guadalupe Guerrero.

She is survived by her children Margarita (Elivario) Moreno, Armando (Letica) Godinez, Juan Godinez, Carmelita (James) Sayre, Dolores Godinez, Vicenta “Chenta” (Roberto) Huerta, Angelita (Daryl) Ehrlich, eleven grand children, and thirteen great grand children.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff of Windsor Skilled Nursing and all family and friends for their devoted care and companionship during her last years of life. 

Visitation for Mrs. Godinez will be at 4:00 pm and Prayer Service will be at 7:00 pm on Monday, October 24, 2022 at Dobie Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be at 10:00 am on Tuesday, October 25, 2022 at Primera Iglesia Bautista followed by interment at Cenizo Hill Cemetery
