Tomasa Ochoa

Tomasa Martinez Ochoa passed away January 14, 2013 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born December 29, 1923 in Cedar Creek, Texas to Lazaro Martinez and Romalda Dominguez Martinez. She loved God and her family and loved being surrounded by her children at all times of the day especially in the morning. She was primarily a homemaker but had also worked at the First United Methodist Church in Corpus Christi, Texas. When she was younger she would cook a big breakfast and invite her nine children and their families to come eat the food she had prepared and anybody else that would show up to drink coffee with them. She did this for many years. As she got older and sickly her children and grandchildren would be at the family table before her and she would stand with her walker and say "que bendicion, mis hijos". Above all she was a loving wife to her gentle yet strong husband Salvador C. Ochoa of 70 A½ years who passed away January 6, 2013. Her grandchildren called her Mamo. Mamo loved her pets (dog, a parrot that loved her, and her cats), she left us many quilted memories. She was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, Portland, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Salvador C. Ochoa, son Alfredo Ochoa, granddaughter Ellida Ochoa, sister Victoria Martinez Ramirez, brother-in-law Ben Ramirez, son-in-law Ramiro Hernandez, nephews Ben & Oscar Ramirez, sister-in-law Esther Martinez.
She is survived by her sons, Salvador Ochoa Jr. (Alma), Ernesto Ochoa (Rita), Guadalupe Ochoa (Ramona), Cornelio Ochoa (Sylvia), Larry Ochoa (Yolanda); daughters, Gloria O. Hernandez, Anita O. Saenz (Filemon), and Evelyn O. Nesmith (Raul); 39 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren; one brother Sostenez Martinez from Portland, Texas, and two sisters Mary Davis (Loyd) from Liberty, South Carolina, Judy Martinez Muse (Brandon) from Eastiole Corona, California; daughter-in-law Matiana Ochoa.
Visitation will be held at 3:00 pm, Friday, January 18, 2013 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church with a rosary to be recited at 7:00pm that same evening. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am, Saturday, January 19, 2013 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church. Interment to follow at Palms Memorial Gardens.
