Segifredo C. "Fred" Melendez

Segifredo Cruz Melendez, loving husband of Virginia, adored father of Fred Melendez, Jr. (Janie), Angelo Melendez (Rose Marie), Betty Sandoval (Manuel), Yolanda Melendez, Daniel Melendez, Ralph Melendez, Marie Rios (Jake), Rene Melendez (Sandra), and Alicia Salinas (Andy); and beloved "Popo" to 27 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren peacefully went to his resting place on Sunday morning, August 14, 2011. In death, he will join his adoring mother, father, sister and will be greeted delightfully by his infant grandsons, Jonathan Rios and Juan Antonio Missana. He was born in Gregory, Texas and resided in Portland for most of his life. He and wife Virginia were active parishioners and prayer group leaders at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Portland. He led a humble, religious life, full of love, joy, and kindness toward all. He befriended all with an open mind and heart, and left them with a smiling face. His greatest gift to those who loved him was his humor, understanding, and most of all his undying support. We will think of him often, pray for him daily, and love him eternally.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 8:00 PM, Monday, August 15, 2011 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Portland with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 PM that same evening.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, August 16, 2011 at Our Lady of Mt Carmel Catholic Church.
