Sam "Mac" Armstrong

Mac Armstrong of Orange Grove, Texas, passed away March 20, 2021 at the age of 89.

Sam Megarity 'Mac' Armstrong was born August 26, 1931 in Dallas, Texas, to John Nelson and Sally Megarity Armstrong. Mac moved to Corpus Christi, Texas, when he was six years old. He graduated from College Academy in Corpus Christi, and then attended Texas A & M University.

Mac was a successful businessman who first gained recognition as the owner of Armstrong Lumber Company, the largest family-owned lumber yard in Corpus Christi. He also served for many years as a director on the board of International Bank of Corpus Christi (now Value Bank).

In the mid-1980's Mac moved to Orange Grove, Texas and, as a successful real estate investor and developer, worked to improve properties in the Orange Grove area. He established the Orange Grove Museum in downtown Orange Grove, and began the Old-Timers Parade as part of the city's Pioneer Days. Because Mac believed in the importance of always learning new things, he plunged into diverse residential and commercial projects in the area, with his latest being to revive a convenience store on the road to Lake Mathis.

Mac Armstrong was known to be fun-loving. Additionally, he believed in people and took risks helping them get started in business ventures and helping young families invest in their first home.
