Margie Ruth Garner, 89, of Portland, Texas, passed away Thursday, March 3, 2016, surrounded by her family after a short illness.  Ruth was born August 27, 1926 in Bell County near Copperas Cove Texas.

She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and great-great grandmother.  Ruth devoted her life to caring for her family.  She was a long time member of First Christian Church of Portland.

She is survived by daughter Lynda Ragsdale, son Joe “Burr” Garner, daughter Patty Moore, and a brother Tommy (Sharon) Duncan all of Portland.  She was blessed with 8 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great- grandchild; plus numerous nieces and nephews.

Ruth is preceded in death by her husband, Joe F. Garner, parents Alice Obera and Thomas Elijah Duncan; a sister Dorothy (Dody) Duncan; 2 brothers Carl (Evelyn) Duncan and Marvin (Christine) Duncan; and son-in-law Arthur Moore.

Funeral services will be Monday, March 7, 2016 at 2 p.m. at First Christian Church of Portland, 1103 Lang Road.  Visitation will beginning at 12 p.m. before the services on Monday.  Burial will follow at The Palms Memorial Gardens.
