August 6, 1957 — February 17, 2026
Rudy Barrera, born August 6, 1957, to Adelmira and Rodolfo Barrera, entered into the presence of the Lord surrounded by the love of family and friends. He grew up in Flour Bluff. Following in his father’s footsteps, Rudy entered the construction industry and later, alongside his brother Joel, founded Barrera Building. Together they framed and built hundreds of homes over the years. Yet Rudy often said the greatest house he ever worked on was the house of the Lord.
Rudy’s true passion was sharing the Gospel. He joyfully told anyone who would listen about what Jesus had done in his life, and he cherished every soul he helped lead to faith. Throughout his years in ministry, he witnessed many miracles and humbly wondered why God had allowed him to see so many. His faith was bold, his testimony powerful, and his love for the Lord unwavering.
He was a loving husband, a devoted father, and a loyal brother to his five siblings. But perhaps his most treasured role was that of a new grandfather, a title he embraced with immense pride and joy. Rudy was a strong presence — a force to be reckoned with — whose kindness, conviction, and love left a lasting impact on all who knew him. Though he will be deeply missed, his family finds comfort in knowing he is now seated at the right hand of God, the place he longed to be.
Rudy is survived by his beloved wife of 25 years, Dana Barrera; his children Rudy Rowe (Tina), Jacob Barrera (Maricela), Racquel Murphy (Justin), Nicholas Rodriguez, and Carlos Barrera; and his cherished granddaughter, Ellie Mae Murphy. He is also survived by his siblings Mary Ramirez (the late Felipe), Janie Avalos (Richard), Viola Munoz (Gert), Annette Hall (Jon), and Joel Barrera, along with many extended family members and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Adelmira and Rodolfo Barrera.
Rudy’s life was guided by faith, love, and service to others. His legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched, the homes he built, and the family he adored.
“Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your Lord.”
