Our community sadly lost a pillar on Thursday, July 18, 2019 when Rosalinda Pena, affectionally known as "Ms. Pena" passed away. Ms. Pena was an active community member and worked tirelessly for the betterment of her church, community, and the youth. Her contributions to the lives of many included working with youth of Sacred Heart Church for nearly 50 years, volunteering and supporting Mathis ISD athletics as a member and President of the Athletic Booster club for many years. In 2013, she was elected to the Mathis City Council and was re-elected twice after that. Ms. Pena is survived by one daughter, Christina (Victor) Alvarado, two grandsons, Victor (Lisa) Alvarado Jr. and Gabriel (Bianca) Alvarado. She is also survived by 5 great-grandchildren Jaime, Sergio, Estevan, Andres, and Elizabeth. Along with a sister Hortencia Zapata and brother Homer (Mary) Garza, numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents Jose and Alicia Cavazos and lldefonso "Dutch" and Carmen Gonzales and Grandmother Rita Gonzales.

Visitation will be Sunday July 21, 2019 at 2p.m. - 5 p.m. at Dobie Funeral Home, with a Holy Rosary being recited at 7pm at Sacred Heart Church. A Funeral Mass on Monday at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church immediately followed with Interment at Cenizo Hill cemetery in Mathis, Texas.
