Ronnie Vela

Ronnie Vela, age 64, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, March 6, 2025. He was born on November 9, 1960, to John and Olga Merrill.

Ronnie was preceded in death by his grandparents, Toribio and Ruth Sandoval; his father, John Freeman Merrill Sr; his sister-in-law, Rosie Vela; his niece, Vanezza Merrill; and his granddaughter, Naelani Smith.

He leaves behind his cherished daughters, Jennifer Vela, Sarah Goldberg (Cameron); and sons, Christopher, Joseph, and Lorenzo Vela. He is also survived by his five brothers, Sonny Vela (Loly), David Vela, Tyggur Merrill, John Merrill (Joyce), and George Merrill; two sisters, Sellina Merrill (Quincy) and Dawn Merrill Cantu (John), and partner, Jennifer Howard. Ronnie was deeply loved by his extended family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Ronnie was an accomplished carpenter, skilled fisherman, and a master pool player. He was a man of great moral character and unwavering faith. His kindness, strength, and dedication to his family were evident in all that he did.

Ronnie's legacy will live on through the love he shared, the lessons he imparted, and the faith he held.

Ronnie is now at peace with God and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
