Romelia Leal

Romelia Rivera Leal, of Mathis, passed peacefully surrounded by family on Saturday, April 6, 2019.

Mrs. Leal was born January 23, 1954, in Mathis to the Late Luciano Rivera Sr. and Margarita Paiz Rivera. She graduated from Mathis High School in 1972 and attended Texas A&I Kingsville. She was a 5th grade teacher for Mathis Intermediate School, a principal at Mathis High School and the proud owner of Little Bit of Sunshine Adult Center.

She was preceded in death by her son, Rene Leal, father, Luciano Rivera Sr., and her in laws, Ricardo Leal Sr. and Justa Leal.

Survivors include her husband of 43 years, Ricardo Leal Jr. of Sandia; a son, Ricardo Leal III (Anna) of Mathis; two daughters, Marisa (Adan) Cavazos and Leticia (Jose) Garcia, both of Corpus Christi; mother, Margarita Paiz Rivera of Mathis; brothers and sisters; Luciano Rivera Jr., Roel Rivera, Rachel Covarrubias and Rita Aguirre and five grandchildren; Karisa, Rickie, Victoria, Javier and Sebastian that she adored dearly.

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 10, 2019 at Dobie Funeral Home. The Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. that evening at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. April 11, 2019 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will follow at the Sandia Cemetery.
