Rodolfo "Rod"
Rodriguez
June 2, 1956 – April 28, 2026
Rodolfo "Rod" Rodriguez, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on April 28, 2026, in Mathis, Texas. Born on June 2, 1956, in Corpus Christi, Texas, Rod lived a life marked by devotion to his family, service to his country, and a deep love for the joys of everyday moments.
Rod was a Vietnam veteran who proudly served in the United States Army as an ammunition specialist, holding the rank of SP4. His service to this country was something he carried with quiet pride throughout his life. After his time in the Army, he went on to build a career as a foreman with Kiewit, where he earned the respect of those around him through hard work and leadership.
Rod was a devoted parishioner of St. James Catholic Church, finding comfort and community in his faith. Known for his humor and remarkable dancing skills, he was a vibrant presence in all who knew him. His family fondly recalls annual trips to Six Flags in San Antonio, where his exuberant screams and gritos could be heard above everyone else in the park. Rod was the heart of every gathering, affectionately serving as everyone’s dance teacher, often starting with a broom or mop in hand as his example partner. Beyond his energetic spirit, he had a deep affection for watching football and cherished the times he spent dining out with friends and family.
Rod is reunited with his parents, Jesusa Salazar and Antonio Rodriguez, and his siblings, Lucy Rodriguez, Rosa Jimenez, and Jose Antonio Rodriguez. He leaves his loving memories to his beloved wife of 39 years, Juanita Gonzales Rodriguez; children Jeannie Salinas, Rodolfo Rodriguez Jr., Jesse Rodriguez, and Adrian Rodriguez; twelve grandchildren; siblings, Daniel Rodriguez, Gilbert Rodriguez, and Jesse Rodriguez; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends.
The Rodriguez family extends heartfelt gratitude to Rod's granddaughters for their unwavering presence and care during his most challenging times. They also sincerely thank the staff at Christus Spohn Hospital - Shoreline for their exceptional and compassionate care, and ATEX Hospice for their care and support during Rod's final days.
Family will be receiving friends at 11:30 AM on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at Winsteads' Funeral Home, where a Holy Rosary will be recited that same day at 12 PM. Rite of Committal and Inurnment with Final Military Honors will follow at 2 PM at Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery.
Rodolfo "Rod" Rodriguez will be remembered as a man of strength, laughter, and love, whose spirit enriched the lives of all fortunate enough to know him. His legacy will live on in the hearts of his family and the many cherished memories he leaves behind.
“but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” - Isaiah 40:31
