Richard Lassmann

Richard Allan Lassmann was born January 2, 1940, in rural Victoria County, Texas to Carl Oscar and Pearl (Brandt) Lassmann and died October 14, 2026. He was the second of five children.

Richard graduated from Cuero High School in 1958. He was active as a class officer, FFA president, and a member of the track team.

Raised on a farm, he developed a work ethic which served him well throughout his life.

Richard was proud of his German heritage, living within several miles of his great aunt and four great uncles. He was close to them, and they were a great influence on his life.

He married Margie Miller in early 1960. They had two children, Robert Lassmann and Gena Davis. He went to work at the Sherwin Williams Company in Cuero, then in Alice, and then in Kingsville. He worked for Sherwin Williams for fifty years. Richard enjoyed being outdoors, where he did a lot of hunting and working on his in-laws’ ranch.

After he and Margie divorced, he met and married Marie Henry Bryant, his soul mate. He and Marie went on vacations over the years touring Arkansas, California, Yosemite, and Las Vegas. His daughter and her family took him to the Grand Canyon and Yellowstone where they did a lot of hiking.

One of Richard’s achievements was working for Sherwin Williams for 50 years. He always laughed remembering one of his customers saying, “He was either very loyal or too dumb to do anything else,” answering; “It was probably a little of both.” He was recognized by the company and customers for the customer service he provided, thanks to his work ethic.

He had many loyal customers, many of whom became lifelong friends. He appreciated them all, especially many who let him and other friends hunt doves on their land. Loving being outdoors and hunting, this was always appreciated.

After retirement he enjoyed keeping his neighbors’ yards mowed and landscaped.

Richard was active at his church, Trinity Lutheran, where he served as council member for years, kept up the church yard, and cleaned the buildings. Trinity later was closed and he attended St. John Lutheran Church in Bishop, TX.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Charles Lassmann, John Lassmann, brother-in-law Alvin Buendel, daughter-in-law Sandy Lassmann.

Richard is survived by his wife Marie, brother Alton Lassmann (Linda) of Victoria, Sister Gloria Buendel of Yorktown, son Robert Lassmann of Cuero, daughter Gena Davis (Gary) of Fulshear, grandsons Cameron Davis (Megan) of Richmond, Christopher Lassmann (Kaitlyn) of New Braunfels , and great-granddaughter Abigail Davis and many nieces and nephews. Also surviving him are his stepdaughters Angela Smith (Tommy) of Kingsville, Molly Michaels of Sinton, Honee Michaels of Houston, grandchildren Will Smith of Abilene, Ashleigh Jimenez (Manny) of Kingsville, Bethany Smith of Kingsville, Amanda Aylmer of Manhattan, NY, great-grandsons Trey and Myles Jimenez of Kingsville.
