Richard Carl Crenshaw passed away on February 23, 2019.

He was born in Texarkana, Texas on April 15, 1946 to T. C. “Sandy”’ Crenshaw and Mary Katherine Ledbetter Crenshaw.

He graduated from Tomball High School in 1964, attended Stephen F. Austin University, and served in the U. S. Navy – Vietnam.  He worked in Purchasing for 3 major offshore structure building companies until he retired.  He was a dedicated member of the Portland Lions Club for 26 years and served 3 years as president of the club.  He also served in several of the Lions District positions and received numerous Lions awards.  The Texas Lions Camp and Lions past and present in his club were very special to him.  He was a member of the Portland United Methodist Church and served as usher and substitute Sunday school teacher.

Richard was married to his wife Ellen for 47-1/2 years. He was a loving husband and father. His immediate and extended family were very dear to him.

He was a very outgoing, caring person.  He never met a stranger; he once said, “I’d talk to a fence post if it would talk back”.  He loved family reunions, camping, dancing, horseback riding, fishing and quail hunting with his dad and brothers.  His favorite sports teams were the Houston Astros, Texans, Rockets and the San Antonio Spurs.

He is preceded in death by his parents, and his mother and father in-law, 2 brothers (Bobby) and (Moss) and brother in-law (Bill).  He is survived by his wife, Ellen and daughter Richelle, sister Sandra Schneider, sister in-laws Rhonda and Debbie, nephews Sam, Cameron, Christopher and fiancé Erin, nieces Lynette and husband Andrew, Tamara and husband Michael, Melissa and Rebecca, 2 great-nieces and 3 great-nephews and numerous cousins.

A Memorial Service and Celebration of Life for Richard will be held at 2:00 P.M. March 30, 2019 at First United Methodist Church, 4545 Wildcat Drive. Portland, Texas 78374.

A Graveside Service will be held at 2:00 P.M. May 11, 2019 at Austin Memorial Cemetery, 2800 Hancock Drive, Austin, Texas 78731.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Texas Lions Camp, P. O. Box 290247, Kerrville, Texas 78029-0247 In Memory of Richard C. Crenshaw.
