Remigio V. Herrera Sr.

September 15, 1936 — February 25, 2024

Remigio V. Herrera Sr.

It is with heavy hearts, we bid farewell to our father, Remigio Valdez Herrera SR.  He went to meet our heavenly father on February 25, 2024 in Corpus Christi surrounded by family.

He was born on September 15, 1936, in Clareville, Texas, and he was preceded in death by his parents, Juan and Inez Herrera, four brothers and seven sisters, daughter Anita Martinez (Herrera), and his great granddaughter Malorie Marie Rodriguez.

Remigio V. Herrera was a man of remarkable work ethic.  He was a hard working Truck Driver and Migrant Worker.  He held high expectations for all of his children.  To do your best in whatever you do… it did not matter what that was.  He instilled in his family a sense of responsibility and a great work ethic.

He was someone you could count on whether family or friend and had great generosity.  In retirement, he focused on his wife and family.  He was passionate about the Dallas Cowboys, Texas Longhorns, boxing (especially Mexican fighters like Canelo Alvarez).  He enjoyed nothing more than gathering with his family to watch the games or discuss the latest boxing matches, his enthusiasm was contagious to all around him.

He had unwavering love for his family and had a great sense of humor. He always used his humor to bring smiles to everyone he encountered. He cherished his role as a husband, father, and grandfather, finding his greatest happiness in the company of his loved ones.

As passionate as he was about his teams, nothing compared to his devotion to family, especially his dedication to his wife, Maria Garza Herrera. They were married 69.5 years.  Their family included 10 children (7 sons and 3 daughters) and his legacy lives on with their grand, great-grand, and great-great grandchildren.

Left to cherish Remigio’s loving memory are his wife, Maria G. Herrera, two daughters Adelaida (Robert) Dominguez, Rosa M. Herrera, seven sons:  Remigio G. (Isabel) Herrera Jr., Ramiro G. (Lizette) Herrera, Ramon G Herrera, Reynaldo Herrera, Roberto (Rosalinda) Herrera, Rene (Melinna) Herrera, Ricardo (Audrey) Herrera; one brother, Jose (Maria) Herrera; 28 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren; and 2 great great grandchildren.

A celebration of Remigio's life will be held at Dobie-Winsteads' Funeral Home at 5:00 pm and Holy Rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm, on Thursday, February 29, 2024, where family and friends will come together to honor his memory and share stories of the laughter and love he brought into their lives. Funeral mass will be at 10:00 am on Friday, March 1, 2024 followed by interment at Descanso Eterno II in Mathis, Texas.

"Though he is no longer with us, his memory, wisdom, and laughter will echo in our hearts and memories.  He will never be gone as long as we remember and honor his memories.
