Reed H. Smith

Reed passed away April 5, 2022, after a long battle with cancer and Parkinson's disease.

Reed was born on December 18, 1946 in Great Falls, Montana. He was the youngest of the four children of Adolf and Mary Smith. His parents moved to Kalispell, Montana where he attended grade school and high school. He graduated from high school during the Vietnam War and received a draft notice. He chose to enlist in the Navy for four years. He spent the four years on an aircraft carrier off the coast of Vietnam fueling fighter jets. He married Lora Christensen on June 9, 1970. They were blessed with five sons and a daughter and have 22 grandchildren. He spent most of his career in the trucking industry as a driver instructor and a driver manager. Both he and Lora enjoyed building and fixing up houses. They have either built or redone 18 houses together. With his job they have lived in Arizona, Oklahoma, Washington and they lived in Montana when the children were young.

He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He served in leadership positions and presidencies. He really enjoyed working with the scouts, backpacking trips, hiking, canoeing and camping.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Gordon and Jerry, and his infant son Brian Reed Smith.

He is survived by his sister Barbara Schultz of Spokane, Washington, wife Lora Smith; sons Robert, Steven, Alan, Ron; daughter Kelli Settle; and twenty-two absolutely wonderful grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00 AM Tuesday, April 12, 2022 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Portland with the service to follow at 11:00AM. Interment will be at 2:00PM that same day at the Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery.
