Pedro "Pete" Hernandez

Pedro (Pete) Valdez Hernandez, 87 of Portland, Texas passed away Wednesday, March 8, 2023 in Corpus Christi, Texas. He was born on July 20th, 1935 to Perfecto Hernandez and Eugenia Valdez. Despite his lack of education he was able to provide for his family by obtaining a Cosmetology license. Through his many years as a hairdresser/barber, he operated many businesses in Corpus Christi and eventually Pete’s Beauty Salon in Portland Texas. He married Dolores Lopez in 1958, and they celebrated 60 wonderful years of marriage before her passing and had two sons and one daughter. Together they worked alongside one another at the beauty shop before his retirement. He was a huge GP Wildcat, Dallas Cowboy and Houston Astros fan

     Our father’s soul began its new journey. A journey into the Lord's Kingdom that will reunite him with his beloved wife Dolores and his beloved son Peter Lee Hernandez, great granddaughter Faith Arianna Cortez, his brothers and sisters as well as parents Perfecto and Eugenia Hernandez. He is survived by his son Paul (Liz) Hernandez; his daughter JoAnn Cortez (Mike); his grandchildren John (Michelle) Cortez; P.J. Hernandez; Rhiannon (Robby) Kennedy; Jana (Andrew) Lopez; Selinda Hernandez; and his great grandchildren Sierra Moreno, J.D. Cortez Jr., Lorelai Luna Lopez, Donovan James Gongora, Andrea Rowe, Abby Kennedy, Ainslee Kennedy.
     Visitation will be held from 5:00 - 7:00 PM with a Rosary at 7:00 PM on Thursday, March 16 at Winsteads’ Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 AM on Friday, March 17 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church. The Burial will follow at the Gregory Cemetery.

Special Thank you to Norma and the staff at Angel Bright Hospice for taking care of our father.  Norma, it was complete divine intervention that you were there on his last day on earth.  You showed professionalism and most of all personal care.
