Oscar Leroy Migl

Oscar Migl went to be with the Lord on November 15, 2018, after battling vascular dementia for five years.  He was born in Placedo, Texas, on December 27, 1928 to Rudolph and Mary (Mikeska) Migl.  Oscar graduated from Pattie Welder High School in 1947 and graduated from Victoria Junior College in 1949,  He was employed by CP&L during which time he was drafted into the U.S. Army where he served for 3 years as supply sergeant stationed in Japan and Korea (near Inchon) and later in Chunchon, Korea, east of Seoul.  Upon discharge from the army in 1953 he returned to work for CP&L.  He met and married his wife of 65 years, Vendla Settle.  They have two daughters, Dana and Melanie.

 

Oscar was a devoted member of St. Stephen Lutheran Church in Portland, Texas, since 1966.  He served as teacher, council member, property committee, and was treasurer for 40 years.  He and his wife also served as volunteer/advocates for Lutheran Brotherhood/Thrivent for 20 years.  He received from his Czech heritage a love of dancing to polkas and waltzes.  He was an avid fisherman, especially his love for floundering.  Oscar was a soft-spoken man and well-liked by all who knew him.

 

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather of four and great grandfather of nine.  He is preceded in death by his parents, Rudolph and Mary (Mikeska) Migl, and seven brothers: Rudy, Otto, George, Richard, Marvin, Ervin, and Eugene; and one sister, Alice Kornfuhrer.  He is survived by his loving wife, Vendla Migl of Portland, Texas; his daughters, Dana (Don) Blevins of Grand Prairie, Texas and Melanie (Wesley) Schmidt of Taft, Texas; Grandchildren: Jason (Nellie) Blevins of Pflugerville, Texas; Shawna (Chris) Bradshaw of Midlothian, Texas; Luke (Kristen) Schmidt of Fredericksburg, Texas; and Lance (Lynann) Schmidt of Taft, Texas; great grandchildren: Trevor, Trey, Layla, Paige, Blaine, Bailey, Landen, Levi, and Harper.  Also survived by sisters, Margaret Sklar of Edna, Texas, Lorene (Bob) Howell of Portland, Texas, Marilyn Kerr of Katy, Texas, and numerous nieces and nephews.

 

A memorial service will be held at St. Stephen Lutheran Church in Portland, Texas at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 20, 2018.  Burial of his remains will be at Memory Gardens, Victoria, Texas, pending arrangements.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Stephen Lutheran Church Memorial Fund.
