Olive Kathryn Chambers

Kathy Chambers (79) passed away on February 23, 2017 in Corpus Christi, TX after a lengthy battle with cancer.  Kathy was born on May 16, 1937 in Vernon, TX. She was a graduate of Electra High School, Electra, TX and Del Mar College, Corpus Christi, TX. She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Portland, TX and she was a past president of the Paisano Girl Scout Council of South Texas.  In the 60’s she was a lab technician for PPG in Corpus Christi, TX. She retired from Gregory-Portland ISD as a para-professional librarian at East Cliff Elementary School, Portland, TX. She enjoyed traveling and made trips to Alaska, Japan, Germany, Austria, Korea, France, Italy, Kenya and Saipan as well as visiting nearly every state in the lower 48 in her 5th wheel trailer with her husband. She was preceded in death by her mother Ruth Burch Collins, sister Patricia Wylie, and brothers Philip and Carl Burch.  She is survived by her husband of 60 years Wayne, daughter Tanya of Sasebo, Japan, son Derek (Maria), grandsons Cole and Casey of Saipan, Northern Mariana Islands, and special friends John and Yolanda Anderson of Freer, TX. The family wishes to express gratitude to Dr. Emile Salloum and Dr. James Mobley for their years of personal attention. In lieu of flowers or other gifts, memorial donations may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Portland, TX or the charity of your choice.
