Nicanor C. Garcia, Jr.

Nicanor C. “Nick” Garcia, Jr. was born December 6, 1949 and passed away peacefully on April 8, 2014 while surrounded by loved ones. He was a long time resident of Portland, Texas. He graduated from Gregory-Portland in 1969, and was a lifetime member of the Portland Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed refereeing basketball games throughout South Texas. He was a Senior Gauger in the oilfield industry.

He was preceded in death by his parents Nicanor Sr. and Valentina Rodriguez – Garcia; brothers Felix and Victor Garcia; and stepson Martin David Andruskevitch. He is survived by his wife of 40 years Maryann Garcia; son Nicanor (Nick) Garcia III; daughter Angelina Flores; grandchildren; Angel Hernandez, Jr., Veronica Hernandez, Kristian Ortiz ;  great-grandson Juan Gabriel Hernandez; two brothers Jesse and Ray Garcia; five sisters Margie Rodriguez, Clara Nunez, Lally Carrillo, Bede Murray, Norma Lopez; and many nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by everyone. In lieu of flowers, donations will be accepted for funeral expenses at any IBC Bank c/o Maryann Garcia/ Funeral Fund for Nicanor Garcia, Jr.

Visitation will be held from 2:00 – 9:00 p.m. Thursday, April 10, 2014 at the Limbaugh Funeral Home in Portland with a rosary to be recited at 7:30 p.m. that same evening. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Portland. Interment to follow at the Gregory Cemetery.
