Nerio Garcia Martinez,73, of Kingsville Texas, was welcomed into Heaven surrounded by his beloved children and sister Subelda on February 3, 2024, in Corpus Christi, Texas. He was born on December 18, 1950, in Kingsville, Texas, to Nazario Horta Martinez and Zulema Garcia Martinez.
He attended welding school and began his career as a welder, owning his welding shop in Kingsville. He then worked in multiple roles as a journeyman in many trades including welding, fabrication, sheet metal mechanic/insulator for industrial service contractors including Brown & Root Industrial Services and the Mundy Companies. He served as a trainer and mentor for many throughout his career. He also owned a hay business in partnership with his father Nazario for over 40 years.
Nerio proudly served his country in the Army National Guard and Reserves for 6 years and was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 2623.
Nerio was a loving, devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Nazario and Zulema Martinez, his beloved wife of 49 years, Olga G. Martinez, and his granddaughter Mariel A. Martinez.
Among those left to cherish his memory are his children, Jorge (Cristina) Martinez of Boerne; Vanessa (Lee Roy) Quintanilla of Corpus Christi; and Laura (Javier) Mercado of Kingsville, and his siblings Nelda Basaldua, Mario Martinez, Subelda Ortegon, Enedelia Saenz, Graciela Jaime as well as 8 grandchildren; Marcus and Emma Martinez; Jon David, Ryan, and Lee Roy Quintanilla; Desiree, Mariah, and Isabelle Mercado, along with three great-grandchildren; Layla Quintanilla, Rosalie Quintanilla and Alejandro Bravo.
He touched the lives of many through his acts of selflessness and kindness which will be remembered by numerous friends and extended family.
Family and friends are invited to attend visiting hours at Kingsville Memorial Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, from 5-8pm with a rosary at 7pm that same evening. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10am on Thursday, February 8, at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church. His burial will follow at the Kingsville Resthaven Cemetery.
