Mateo (Cat) Gomez III entered eternal rest with our Lord and Savior on Friday, October 10, 2025, at the age of 66. Mateo was born on February 6, 1959, to Mateo Gomez, Jr. and Anna “Ann” Rosales-Gonzalez in Alice, Texas. He attended Alice High School, where his vibrant personality began to shine, setting the stage for a life full of warmth and laughter.
Cat is survived by his beloved wife of 44 years, Annette R. Gomez; their children, Crystal C. (Marcus) Moreno and Benjamin C. Gomez; as well as four grandchildren, Danielle, Benji, Mark, and Isaiah; and two great-grandchildren, Ella and Evan. He is also survived by his brothers, Israel R. (Noemi) Gomez and Albert (Debbie) Gomez; sisters, Irene G. (George) Franco, Bea (Daryl) Campbell, and Elsa Gonzalez (Louis) Escamilla; and his trusted sidekick, best friend, and cousin, Alex Rosales.
Cat is preceded in death by his father, Mateo Gomez Jr., and his mother, Anna R. Gonzalez.
A man of many talents, Cat worked as a paint and body technician in his early years before venturing out to own his own locksmith and windshield business. Over the past 30 years, he dedicated himself to construction, where he honed his skills in master carpentry, a craft he was deeply passionate about.
Beyond his professional pursuits, Cat embraced life and was regarded as the life of every celebration. His home was often filled with the sweet sounds of music, laughter, and the delicious aroma of barbecuing for family and friends. Cat had a way of making everyone feel welcome, ensuring they had everything they needed to enjoy their time together. He shared a special and loving bond with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who affectionately called him “Babe.”
Cat left a lasting impression on all who had the fortune to meet him, often sharing life lessons and his memorable catchphrases, such as “Why you crying?!” His infamously blue uniform was a staple in his daily life and became a symbol of his vibrant spirit.
