Mary Jane (Janie) Martinez McFarland, died peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones on November 29, 2014 at the age of 91.  She was born in Yorktown, Texas, December 2, 1922 to Adelina Heineman Martinez and Santiago G. Martinez and moved to Corpus Christi in 1938 and Portland in 1961.  She graduated from Corpus Christi High School in 1941. She volunteered at the Portland Public Library; was a lifetime honorary member of the Mary and Jeff Bell Public Library; and helped establish the library in Gregory TX. She was a lifetime member of the G-P Booster Club and an active member in the Chatwork Club. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend and who will always be remembered for her strong and loving friendships.  She was a wonderful grandmother who took care of her grandchildren with great love. She was a strong woman devoted to her family and made her house a home for many, during her lifetime. She was lovingly known to many as “Mamo”.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Russell W McFarland, brothers Lee Martinez, Sr. Alfredo Martinez and sister Zobeida (Sophie) Martinez.

She is survived by her daughters: Adrian(Bruce) Campbell of Corpus Christi, Cathy Polderman, Portland, TX,  Patricia (Ricky) Metzler of Portland, TX, grandsons: Frank (Jessica) Polderman, Erik and Kirk Polderman, Portland TX, Patrick (Venice) Metzler, Broken Arrow, OK and Cameron and Preston Campbell of Corpus Christi, great grandchildren: Patrick and Shyloh Metzler, Reef and Emma Polderman. She is also survived by her special nieces and nephews: Marty Benavidez, Carolina Strandgard, Rose Marie Gonzales, Adelina Abrego, Terry Alaniz, Lee Martinez, Jr. Freddie Martinez, along with lifetime friends Ken and Marilyn Isenberg in addition to her numerous friends and relatives.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday December 2, 2014 from 5:00-7:00 pm.  Services will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, December 3, at Limbaugh Funeral Home in Portland, TX, by Pastor Rusty Maddox. Interment will follow at Palms Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be her loving grandsons Patrick Metzler, Cameron and Preston Campbell, and Frank, Erik and Kirk Polderman.

Special thanks to Encompass Home Health Care Angels Linda, Lauren, Rita, Carlos, Maria and Robin. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations be made to the Bell/Whittington Public Library, 2400 Memorial Pkwy, Portland, TX 78374.
