Obituary

Marrian Lillian Baldeschwiler, affectionately known as “Granny,” of Orange Grove, Texas, passed away on May 9, 2026, at the age of 93.

She was born on September 18, 1932, in Alfred, Texas, to Otto Oscar Roth and Ella Emma Brieger Roth. Marrian graduated from Orange Grove High School in 1950 and later earned an associate degree in sociology.

On October 29, 1950, she married Matthew Lloyd “M.L.” Baldeschwiler Jr. of Mathis, Texas, at St. John of the Cross Catholic Church in Orange Grove. They began their life together in San Patricio, Texas, where they lived for 31 years while M.L. worked for Fordyce Gravel Company and later served as Vice President of Wright Materials in Robstown. In 1981, they built their home in Orange Grove, where Marrian remained for the rest of her life.

Marrian dedicated 22 years of service to Mathis ISD and thoroughly enjoyed all the students she interacted with over the years. She also took great pride in her family’s roots in Orange Grove, where her parents owned and operated the Mobil Service Station at the town’s four-way stop.

She found joy in the simple pleasures of life. In her younger years, she played on the Orange Grove High School championship volleyball team and spent many evenings dancing with M.L. at the Rifle Club Hall, a place her grandfather helped build. She loved baking and became especially well known for her German Chocolate and Angel Food cakes, which she made for countless celebrations. Each Christmas, she shared her homemade Peanut Brittle with friends and coworkers, something many looked forward to year after year. She also enjoyed making and sharing homemade bread.

Marrian loved the outdoors and spent time hunting and fishing on the ranch in San Patricio. She had a strong sense of independence, mowing her own lawn until the age of 87, and always took pride in her appearance, often dressed to the nines, even if she was just staying at home.

She was known for her warmth, humor, and love of laughter, traits she shared from her mother. She enjoyed playing cards, especially Skip-Bo, and rarely took no for an answer—before you knew it, you were sitting at the table with a hand already dealt in front of you. She also cherished socializing with friends at Edmondson’s Wilderness RV Park.

Marrian was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, M.L., in 1991; her parents Otto Oscar Roth and Ella Emma Brieger Roth; sisters Leona Fuhrken, Lillian Nesloney, and Lucille Karnei; her brother Elroy Roth; her son-in-law Eddie Skrobarcek; and her longtime companion Sid Pollock.

She is survived by her children: Debbie (Eddie deceased) Skrobarcek of Orange Grove, Tx; Ronnie (Beth) Baldeschwiler of Orange Grove, Tx; Brian Baldeschwiler of Portland, Texas; and Glen Baldeschwiler of Dallas, Texas.

She is also survived by her grandchildren: Susan (Ray) Schaalman, Laura (Jeremy) Yaklin, Lisa Williams, Matthew (Brittany) Skrobarcek, Monica (Scooter) Mitchell, Bobby Baldeschwiler, Keith Baldeschwiler, Anna Baldeschwiler, Devan (Klint) Hoelscher, Leslie (John) Charlesworth, Colin (Rachel) Baldeschwiler, and Lundan (Javier) Gonzalez, along with 17 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

Marrian loved her family beyond measure and treasured every moment spent with them. In true Granny fashion, she leaves behind laughter, a little mischief, and a whole lot of love.

Pallbearers will be Bobby Baldeschwiler, Matthew Skrobarcek, Keith Baldeschwiler, Colin Baldeschwiler, Ray Schaalman, Jeremy Yaklin, Klint Hoelscher, Javier Gonzalez, and John Charlesworth. Honorary Pallbearer will be Guadalupe (Joe) Garcia.

Visitation will be held from 6 PM until 8 PM on Thursday, May 28, 2026, at Winsteads' Funeral Home, where a Holy Rosary will be recited that same evening at 7 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 2 PM on Friday, May 29, 2026, at St. John of the Cross Catholic Church. Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at Sons of Hermann Cemetery in Orange Grove. Following the interment, fellowship with the family will be held at The Pebble with Ripples, 300 N. Leona St., Orange Grove, Texas 78372.
