Mark William Patterson

Mark W. Patterson passed away peacefully in Portland, Texas, on June 18, 2025, at the age of 66. He lived a full and rich life, marked by faith, service, and unwavering integrity.

He spent his early years in West Texas and later attended Baylor University, where he earned both his undergraduate and law degrees. After a short stint at a small law firm, he came close to walking away from practicing law. He soon found his true calling: first, working for the State of Texas and eventually, serving as an Assistant U.S. Attorney, a career he held for 28 years. He prosecuted some high-level cases during his career. He often said with pride that he was “paid to do the right thing,” a guiding principle that defined both his career and character.

As a passionate teacher of God’s grace, the New Covenant, and all the benefits God has provided through Jesus Christ, Mark oversaw life groups and served as an elder in various churches. He also started two churches. He had a gift for seeing God-given talents in people, and made a special point to encourage each one in that identity – gently, clearly, and with great love. He built a legacy not just in the courtroom, but also in the hearts of those he ministered to and mentored.

Mark was an avid fisherman. Boaters in Corpus Christi could recognize him easily by his Baylor-green boat and his beloved fishing companion, his dog, Kiken. He shared his love for the Sport by taking others on the water and teaching them how to fish, sharing both nature and spiritual truths along the way.

In 2009, he married the love of his life, Tamara. Their years together were filled with laughter, partnership, and deep affection. In his final years, they lived on a golf course, which made it easy for Mark to pursue his zeal for golf! He founded the Northshore Afternoon Golf Association (NAGA) and looked forward to enjoying fun rounds with his NAGA guys almost daily.

He is survived by his wife, Tamara Patterson; his younger brother, Jay Patterson; his two children; and countless friends, whose lives he touched deeply.

The Celebration of Life service for Mark W. Patterson will be at Winsteads’ Funeral Home at 500 Wildcat Drive, Portland, Texas, on Wednesday, 7/16/2025, at 1:00 PM. He will be laid to rest with his parents and grandparents in Kerrville, Texas.

A special thank you to Daren, Sara, and Noah Stokke; Raul and Josette Valenzuela; Bob and Debbie Lindemann; JT Wranosky; and James Bennett, who surrounded him daily during the last few days of his life with laughter, prayer, and music, worshipping God. They gave him a great send-off to Glory!
