Maria Tomasa Miller

Maria Tomasa Miller, born on December 29, 1933, in a world that now seems a whisper away, departed this life on November 20, 2025, leaving behind a legacy woven with love, dedication, and an unyielding spirit. Maria was a remarkable woman whose life touched the hearts of many as she diligently worked at Circle K in Portland, Texas, before embarking on a fulfilling tenure as a crossing guard for the Gregory-Portland School District. Her work ethic was a testament to her character; she was a hard-working individual who found joy in serving her community and cherishing every moment with the children she guided safely across the street.

A devoted mother, grandmother, and loving wife, Maria's warmth was felt by all who knew her. She was married for over 30 years to her beloved husband, Manuel Guerra, with whom she shared countless cherished memories. After Manuel’s passing, Maria found love again with Harold Miller, with whom she enjoyed many beautiful years until his death. The profound love she had for her husbands and the joy she derived from her family were among her greatest treasures.

Maria’s legacy continues through her children: Lavon Grantham Jr. and his wife, Helen; Daniel T. Grantham and his wife, Kelly; and daughter Julie Josie Colwell and her husband, Jim. She was blessed with grandchildren who filled her life with laughter and love, including George Gatica Jr., Monica Ann Gatica, Mia Marie Perez, Alana Davon Grantham, Danny Grantham, Caleb Elijah Grantham, Connor Von Grantham, Nakia Ramirez, and Lily Colwell, as well as numerous great-grandchildren whose bright futures she cherished.

Maria was preceded in death by her parents, Genaro Castillo and Maria Castillo, and her siblings, Gene, Julio, Rogelio Castillo, Rebecca Rios, Rachel Lopez, Amelia Buitron, Sarita Flores and her daughter Maria Cynthia Gatica. Each of them left an imprint on her heart that she carried throughout her life.

Her passing is deeply felt by the entire staff at the Park at Bay Area Enhanced Assisted Living Center, where her vibrant spirit will be sorely missed.

Maria Tomasa Miller will be remembered not just for her roles as a mother, grandmother, and wife, but for the kindness and strength she exemplified every day. She was a gentle soul who brought light into the lives of many, and her memory will forever reside in the hearts of those she loved. As we reflect on her life, may we carry forward her spirit of hard work, love, and compassion. Rest in peace, dear Maria.
