Louise B. Moser

Louise B. Moser, 84, of Portland, Texas, passed away July 11, 2016, of natural causes. She was born September 6, 1931, in Loraine, Texas to Oscar and Elnora Baumann.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her younger brother Melvin. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Albert Richard Moser; her children Steven Richard Moser; her daughter Melann Louise Moser Tinning; grandchildren Sarah Moser (Aaron) Acosta of Houston, TX, David Moser of Monahans, TX, Emily Moser of Houston, TX, Michael Tinning and Andrea Tinning of Portland, TX; one great-grandchild Harold Acosta; one nephew Alan Marcom of Lubbock, one niece Anne Marcom of Dallas; and several dear step-children.

Louise graduated from Texas Tech University with a degree in Home Economics and a Minor in Pipe Organ. She received her teaching certificate at Texas A&I, Kingsville and a Master’s in Education Administration at Corpus Christi State University. She taught for several years in Corpus Christi, and Portland where she later served as a Supervisor of Special Education. As the first woman principle in the Gregory-Portland School District, she completed her teaching career with 18 years as principle at East Cliff Elementary where, once the program was in place, her school almost always received an Exemplary Rating from the State Education Agency. She loved educating children, and held dear all those with whom she worked in this endeavor. She also loved classical music and taught piano for many years to many Portland youth.

Louise and her husband have been very active in St. Christopher’s by-the-Sea Episcopal Church, having served as organist for 32 years, and also serving at various times as Sunday School Superintendent, President of the St. Elizabeth’s Guild, and as a Vestry member. She was a past president of the church’s chapter of the Daughters of the King.

The family would like to thank all of her former colleagues in the education profession, who helped her accomplish all of her educational goals, especially Dr. Lloyd Goldsmith and Dr. Rick Sorenson. We also thank the home health aides who were so very kind and caring to her in her latter days, especially Dora, Marina, and Pas, and Nurse Kimberly Lewis.
