Lorine A. Beutnagel was born in Lavaca County on October 11, 1925 to Willie and Alma Gloor and baptized on February 28, 1926. She passed away peacefully at home on November 14, 2019 at the age of 94.
Lorine lived in Mathis, Texas most of her life. She was the last surviving Gloor sibling which included Evelyn, Gladys, Albert, Norman, and Bennie. She lived a farm life early on, and during WWII worked in San Antonio where she met the love of her life. In 1946 she married her husband of 56 years, Daniel Charles Beutnagel, until his death in 2002. They were long standing members of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Orange Grove, Texas and members of the church choir.
Though she held jobs in town, her favorite role was lifelong housewife and mother, as well as “Aunt Lolly” to many nieces and nephews. She was always fond of animals and nature, particularly brightly colored birds. After retiring, Dan and Lorine travelled, leaf peeping throughout the north. They’d go the extra mile for a piece of pie or another fresh cup of coffee. Later in life, they moved to a home surrounded by the company of birds, squirrels and horses, much to her delight.
Lorine loved playing dominos with friends and relatives, winning her fair share of games. She was a collector of clocks, duck decoys, cookbooks, and had stashes of chocolate. Nobody could beat her refrigerator cookies, a favorite of her son, Mark. A lover of Christmas, her tree was adorned with antique angels, and her home decorated throughout.
Lorine was a loving, spirited woman and will be missed. She is survived by her son, Mark Beutnagel, and his wife Ginny, both of Mendham, NJ; her daughter, Lori Ann Beutnagel of Corpus Christi, Texas, and two grandsons, Damien Gordon of Princeton, MN and Maxwell Beutnagel of Mendham, NJ.
Viewing will be Monday, November 18 from 3pm-7pm at Dobie Funeral Home, 121 N. Duval, Mathis, TX 78368. Services are at the same location,10 a.m. Tuesday, November 19, 2019. Interment will follow in Cenizo Hill Cemetery in Mathis. Friends and relatives are welcome to join Mark and Lori at the Mathis home following.
