Larry Joe Churn

Larry Joe Churn, a beloved father, grandfather, partner, and friend to many, passed away on March 23rd, 2024 in Mathis, Texas at the age of 68. He was born on July 5th, 1955 in Youngstown, Ohio.

Larry's legacy is one of love and compassion. His dedication to helping others was evident throughout his life. He started working at Charlie's Place in 1997, earning his LCDC license, then went on graduating Summa Cum Laude from Texas A&M with a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work and specializing in chemical dependency counseling. Larry committed himself to supporting those struggling with addiction and positively impacting countless lives.

In 2014, Larry retired as the CEO of Charlie's Place but continued to be an inspiration to all who knew him. During his retirement years spent with his loving partner Jewel by his side; he found joy in simple pleasures such as smoking meats, taking relaxing golf cart rides, and birdwatching.

Larry will be deeply missed by all who had the honor and privilege of knowing him, leaving behind a lasting impact on everyone. He is survived by his brother Charles (Karen); son Adam (Amela); daughter Sarah (Jackie); grandsons Arlow, Ayden and Jackson; granddaughter Ayla; and partner Jewel. Larry was preceded in death by his parents George and Clara, sister Sally, and brothers David and Roger, and son Jason.

His warm smile and kind heart will forever live on through the memories shared by those who were fortunate enough to have known him. Rest easy Larry.
