It is with deep love and sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Juan DeLaCruz Flores, who passed on from this life on April 5, 2026, at the age of 88.
Born on November 24, 1937, in Gregory, TX, Cruz was the second of eleven children, growing up in a large and loving family that shaped his strong sense of responsibility, resilience, and devotion to others.
Growing up, Cruz, along with his brothers, had a deep passion for music, encouraging them to learn the craft of playing instruments. Together they formed a band and traveled around South Texas and to surrounding states meeting fellow musicians and countless new people including his wife, Josie. It was love at first sight. Josie then moved to Gregory, TX from Greeley, CO. They married on September 16, 1968. Together they shared a beautiful life, being married for 57 years. They built a life centered on love, faith, and family. Their enduring partnership was a testament to commitment, patience, and solid support.
A devoted father, Cruz was blessed with six children, with his legacy continuing to grow through his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom brought him immense pride and joy. He remained present, treasuring time spent with his family and creating lasting memories that will be cherished for generations.
Cruz dedicated many years of his life to working as a skilled carpenter and later as a bus driver for Gregory Portland ISD of 24 years, roles he carried out with pride, diligence, and a strong work ethic. His commitment to providing for his family was evident in his remarkable dedication, continuing to work until his retirement at the age of 85. Even after, he continued to work and keep moving, fixing accordions, cutting grass and keeping up with his honey-do list.
Above all, he lived with an unwavering Catholic faith that guided his actions, strengthened his character, and provided comfort and hope to his family. He was a profound staple at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church seated in the front pew on the left side.
He will be remembered for his strength, kindness, and steady presence, as well as the love he gave so freely. His faith, devotion to family, and love of music leave behind a legacy that will continue to inspire all who knew him.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Eleno & Maria Flores, his brothers Angel Flores, Domingo (MaryAnne) Flores, and Daniel Flores and his most missed son, Juan DelaCruz Flores Jr.
He is survived by his loving wife, Josefa; his six children: Rosie, Mari, Jerry (Marisette), David (Leslie), and Monica, along with an abundance of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings Juan (Minerva) Flores, Eleno Flores, David (Lora) Flores, Guadalupe Moya, Maria Elena (Guillermo) Pulido, Maria Guadalupe (Benjamin) Jimenez, and Beatriz Flores. He leaves behind a legacy of love, unity, and faith that will live on in all who know him.
We find comfort in our faith and believe that he is with our Savior and Lord Jesus Christ.
