Jose Angel Campos III

Jose Angel Campos III, age 37, of Portland, Texas, passed away of natural causes on

June 13, 2025. He was born on April 9, 1988, in McAllen, Texas, to Rebeca Rodriguez and Jose "Joseph" Angel Campos II.

Jose was known for his boundless love, quiet patience, quick wit, and that wicked sense of humor that could crack even the toughest crowd. He didn’t need to say much, his presence alone brought a calm that settled the air. When he walked into a room, it was like the noise softened. His smile, warm and knowing, had a way of making everyone feel safe, seen, and at peace.

Jose graduated from Gregory-Portland High School in 2006. A true master of his craft, he earned his World Class Certification as a Master Mechanic, a title he carried with honor and skill. He was most recently employed for a company that specialized in ADA handicap vehicles, where his sharp mind, hands-on brilliance, and compassion assisted families in need. But his impact didn’t stop at the garage. Beyond work, Jose was the kind of man who would help anyone, family, friend, or stranger. He found joy in jamming out to music and getting lost in video games, but above all, Jose shined brightest in his role as a doting father.

Jose is survived by his wife, Melissa, and his beloved son, Jose Angel Campos IV. Melissa was not only his partner in life, but his best friend and his rock for nearly twenty years. Their love was steady, genuine, and full of laughter; a bond built on years of shared dreams and everyday joys.

To his son, Jose was a hero. Whether they were playing games, hanging out, or just existing side-by-side, Jose poured his heart into being present. For Jose, what he strived for every day, was to make sure his son was protected, loved, and happy.

He is also survived by his mother, Rebeca, his father, Joseph, and his siblings, Marco and Daniela Campos (Jonathan Solle). His extended family includes loving grandparents, a host of tías, tíos, cousins, and a chosen family of close friends.

Jose was incredibly close to his parents. He was their source of pride and joy. They are so proud of how noble, intelligent, and generous he was; he was a man of honor and integrity. His parents could not ask for more.

Jose also shared a deep bond with his two siblings, who regarded him not just as their older brother, but as their steady anchor. He was endlessly patient and gentle, always offering a listening ear or his signature smirk that usually meant he was about to say something clever. When the three siblings were together, the air filled with laughter, inside jokes, good-humored teasing, and memories layered in enduring love.

Jose also had a strong circle of long-time friends who shared his enthusiasm for cars, innovation, and enjoying each other’s company. Each of his family members and friends carry memories he gifted them that will echo throughout their lives.

Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 19, 2025, with the funeral service to begin at 3:00 p.m., at Winsteads' Funeral Home in Portland, Texas. All are welcome to come share stories, offer love, and celebrate the life of a man who gave so much of himself to others.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Wheels from the Heart, (www.wheelsfromtheheart.org)  in honor of Jose’s generous spirit and enduring legacy of providing reliable transportation to single parent households and families in need.

And while he's crossed that finish line too soon for us, we know he’s out there watching over us; free, full throttle, and smiling that smile we’ll never forget.
