Joe Quintana, Jr. Aka “Coach” age 79 of Portland, Texas passed away on May 14, 2023, quietly in his sleep after a three-year battle with cancer.

Joe was born in Cuero Texas on May 18, 1943. Joe was the first in his family to attend college, receiving a full academic scholarship to Allen Academy, Bachelor of Science in Social work from his Texas A&M in 1967 and later receiving a Master of Social Work Degree in 1984 from the University of Houston. Joe faithfully served displaced workers and families at Wesley Community Center on the Northside of Houston over 20 years and later worked with Dialysis patients at Fesenius Medical Care before retiring in 2015. Joe’s sports passions were The New York Yankees, Dallas Cowboys, Houston Astros. His friends and family will fondly remember Joe’s admiration of the KING of Rock and Roll, Elvis Presley. Saying he was an avid fan is an understatement. Joe travelled the world with his best friend, Juan Hernandez. His favorite destinations were Hawaii, The Holy Land and Egypt. In his later years Joe lived a quiet life following sports, current events and visiting family. Joe and his Great Grandson Benny were good buddies.

He was preceded in death by his parents Joe Quintana Sr. and Consuelo “Concha” Rosales Quintana, brother Victor and sister Yolanda of Bryan Texas.

He is survived by his children: Dedie Denise Rosales (Robert), Curtis Quintana; Grandchildren Andrea Pallotti (David), Diana Montano, Juan Diego Montano, Elliot Lara; Great- Grandson Benton Edward Frederick Pallotti: brother: Frank Quintana (Gilda): niece Annette Cortinas (Oscar”Oppie”), nephews Charlie Lopez, III (Brenda), and Mark Lopez (Angie).

The family would like to express their gratitude to Joe’s neighbors at the Fish Pond Apartments for looking out for each other.  Thank you to the many family and friends that have sent their prayers and condolences.  It is much appreciated.

Funeral Mass will be on Friday, June 16 at 6:30 pm at Our Lady of Mount Carmel, 1008 Austin St., Portland, Texas with reception immediately following in the parish hall. Interment (Gravesite Service) will be Saturday, June 17 at 11:00 a.m. at the Mexican Cemetery Association Cemetery, 612 Church St., Sommerville, Texas.  A reception will follow at 12:00 p.m. at C&J’s BBQ, 2112 W. Briargate, Bryan Texas.
