James "Red" N. Browning

James "Red" N. Browning, a dedicated worker and beloved family man, was born on September 22, 1952, in Corpus Christi, Texas. After a commendable 28-year career with the Post Office, Red made a significant impact in his community, not only through his work but also through his vibrant personality and generous spirit.

Red’s laughter and lightheartedness were as memorable as his barbequing skills, which brought friends and family together for joyous gatherings. A true jokester at heart, he had a unique talent for giving everyone a nickname, further embedding himself in their memories. He was known for his goofy nature, always ready to share a laugh or a funny story.

His creative spirit extended beyond humor; he loved woodworking, fishing, and hunting, and cherished every opportunity to spoil his grandkids and grand-dogs. Red had an innate ability to tinker which led him to keep every scrap piece he could find, believing that with a bit of creativity, anything could become something special.

A member of the United Methodist Church in Corpus Christi, Texas, Red was a steadfast figure in both his faith community and his family life. He exemplified love and dedication in his relationships, most notably to his beloved wife of 50 years, Debbie Browning. Together, they nurtured a loving family that includes their children, Angela (Heith) Spencer, Gabe (Cindi) Browning, and Melissa (Jonathan) Ortiz. Red's legacy also shines through his 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, who carry forward the warmth and humor he instilled in them.

James "Red" N. Browning passed away on August 27, 2025, in Lake City, Texas. He joins his late mother, Mary Gwen Browning; sister, Ruby Widerman; and grandson, Luke Jared Spencer, in eternal rest.

Red's kindness, creativity, and sense of humor will be sorely missed but forever remembered by those whose lives he touched.
