James "Corkey" Tedder III

James Carter Tedder III “Corkey”, age 84, of Portland, Texas, passed away October 3, 2015. He was born December 5, 1930, in Wills Point, Texas, to James Carter Tedder II and Leta McNorton Tedder.

Corkey proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps from November 9, 1948 to November 9, 1951. He married the love of his life, Dorothy, on June 4, 1950. He operated the Farmers Insurance Agency in Portland for over 36 years. He turned the insurance agency into a family business with his wife and daughter. He served in the Portland Volunteer Fire Department for 36 years, holding several positions from Firefighter to Fire Chief. His greatest joy was spending time with his family traveling, working on a project or just visiting. He always enjoyed having a good time with whomever he met and never met a stranger.

Corkey was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Carl Tedder, Paul Tedder, Billie Tedder and sisters: Veda Corman and Anita Smith.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years Dorothy Tedder, son, James Carter Tedder IV “Jay” (Janice) of Cedar Park, Texas and daughter, Roxanne Tedder Swierc (Darryl Sr.), four grandchildren Darryl Swierc Jr. (Hollie), James Chad Swierc (Chelsea), Ashley Tedder (Adam Blanchard) of The Woodlands and Toree Tedder of Cedar Park, four great grandchildren (Macy, Adelaide, Tripp and Cori) and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation with family will be on Tuesday, October 6, 2015 from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at Limbaugh Funeral Home, 500 Wildcat Dr. Portland, Texas.

Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, October 7, 2015, at 10:00 A.M. at the Oak Ridge Baptist Church 2100 Buddy Ganem Dr Portland, Texas with Reverend Mark Miller officiating.

Interment with full military and Fire Department honors will follow at the Palms Memorial Garden Portland, Texas.

Pallbearers: Darryl Swierc Sr., Darryl Swierc Jr., Chad Swierc, Gerald Swierc, Thomas Swierc, David Swierc and Adam Blanchard.
