It is with profound sadness and enduring love, we announce the peaceful passing of Ignacio C. Felan on June 13, 2026.
Ignacio was born on September 25, 1947 to Manuel and Andrea Felan in Portland, Texas and graduated from Gregory-Portland High School. He was the beloved husband of Mercedes Gomez Felan, and together they had recently celebrated their 61 st wedding anniversary on June 11 th . Together, with great love, they built their family of four daughters, Patricia (Leonard Rivera), Carol Felan, Jo Ann (Eduardo Marroquin), and Cynthia (Daniel Escamilla). Ignacio was the proudest and most loving grandfather to Armando Jr., George Jr., Ronald, Elizabeth, Lauren, Steven, Jacob, Bryan and Savannah and Sierra, along with four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters Esmeralda (Pablo) Zambrano, Angelina Garza and brother Richard Felan.
Ignacio’s unwavering love and devotion to his family was evident in all aspects of his life, having great affection for his nieces and nephews. Being a man of great faith and generosity, he had a strong devotion to the adoration chapel and to the Knights of Columbus at Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Portland, Texas. He enjoyed riding his bike, watching football, making BBQ for family gatherings, walking with his wife and Peanut along Sunset Lake, spending time with his family and taking family trips.
Always a hard worker, he enjoyed 31 years at DuPont in Ingleside where he retired to help take care of his twin granddaughters. During his time there, he met good people who would become his lifelong friends. His daughters would always look forward to hearing stories that their father shared about his adventures at the plant. He set an example to his daughters to be grateful for being able to work and help support their families.
Ignacio will be remembered for his immeasurable love for his family, friends and his best friend, Mr. Peanut. His kindness was a great comfort to all.
He is preceded in death by his parents Manuel Sr. and Andrea Felan, and brothers John and Manuel Jr. Felan and sister in law Janie (Richard) Felan.
Visitation will be held from Monday, June 22, 2026 at Winstead’s Funeral Home with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. that same evening. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 23, 2026 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Portland, Texas. Burial to follow at The Palms Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
The family would like to extent their deepest gratitude to the staff at Angel Bright Hospice of Corpus Christi for their compassionate care provided to Ignacio during his last days with his family.
