Obituary

It is with profound sadness and enduring love that we announce the peaceful passing of Ignacio C. Felan which occurred on June 13, 2026.

Ignacio was born on September 25, 1947, in Portland, Texas, to Manuel and Andrea Felan. He went on to graduate from Gregory-Portland High School. Ignacio married the love of his life, Mercedes Gomez Felan, on June 11, 1965, and recently celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary. Together, Ignacio and Mercedes built their family of four daughters, Patricia (Leonard) Rivera, Carol Felan, Jo Ann (Eduardo) Marroquin, and Cynthia (Daniel) Escamilla. Ignacio was the proudest and most loving grandfather to his grandchildren, Armando Jr., George Jr., Ronald, Elizabeth, Lauren, Steven, Jacob, Bryan, Savannah, and Sierra, along with four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters, Esmeralda (Pablo) Zambrano and Angelina Garza; and his brother, Richard Felan. Ignacio’s unwavering love and devotion to his family was evident in all aspects of his life, having great affection for his nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends.

Ignacio is reunited with his parents, Manuel Felan Sr. and Andrea Felan; brothers, John Felan and Manuel Felan Jr.; and sister-in-law, Janie Felan.

Being a man of great faith and generosity, Ignacio had a strong devotion to the adoration chapel and to the Knights of Columbus at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Portland, Texas. In his free time, Ignacio enjoyed riding his bike, watching football, making barbeque for family gatherings, and taking family trips. He also treasured walks along Sunset Lake with his wife, Mercedes and furry friend, Mr. Peanut. Above all, Ignacio loved spending time with his cherished family.

Always a hard worker, Ignacio enjoyed 31 years working at DuPont in Ingleside, Texas. He eventually retired to help care for his twin granddaughters. During his time at DuPoint, he met good people who would later become his lifelong friends. Ignacio's daughters always enjoyed hearing stories that their beloved father shared with them about his adventures at the plant. Ignacio made sure to set an example to his daughters to always be grateful for the ability to work to support their families.

The Felan family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff at Angel Bright Hospice of Corpus Christi for their compassionate care provided to Ignacio during his last days with his family.

Visitation will be held from 5 PM until 9 PM on Monday, June 22, 2026, at Winstead’s Funeral Home, where a Holy Rosary will be recited that same evening at 7 PM.
