Humberto M. Ortegon
Mr. Jose Humberto Ortegon Sr. (Bert) was born in Kingsville Texas on May 2nd, 1939 to Mr. & Mrs. Andres & Florinda Ortegon.
Bert and Susie Ortegon were high school sweethearts. They were married on February 21, 1959 in Kleberg county and stayed married for 62 years.
He joined the United States Navy on July 23, 1959 to honor his country and follow his Patriotic beliefs.
Following his military service, he worked at the Corpus Christi Army Depot for over 30 years.
Bert also had political aspirations! In 1984 he ran for County Commissioner, a seat he did not fill.
However, after this election he was affectionately known as " Mr. O".
Mr "O" had many hobbies and interests: He was an avid sportsman, loved to hunt and fish and had a passion for community service.
In 1974 he founded the Kingsville Boxing Club. His big heart and open door policy attracted many children from the neighborhood. He instilled discipline, hard work, success and recognition via boxing.
He never just taught someone to box but instructed them in the science and skill of boxing.
Mr. "O" was a Spiritual man .
On March 15, 1975, the single Greatest decision he made was receiving JESUS CHRIST into his heart as his life…
This decision was an answer to Susie's prayer and brought dynamic change to the Ortegon family.
Mr. "O" lived a long and happy life, dedicated to serving The LORD and loving his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He believed in the benefits of education. He received a bachelor's degree in 1990.
A personal goal he had and met.
Humberto M. Ortegon Sr is preceded in life by his wife Gloria Susie Ortegon.
Mr. "O" leaves behind to cherish his memories, Humberto A. Ortegon Jr.(Martha), Andy Ortegon (Debra), Roland Ortegon, Steven Ortegon (Melba).
His most prized possessions are his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
