Gregorio B. Vasquez, born on March 12, 1942, passed away on August 26, 2026.
Gregorio lived a life rooted in hard work, devotion to family, and a warm sense of humor that brought joy to those around him. Growing up, he worked in the fields alongside his family, learning the value of perseverance and dedication early in life. He later spent 35 years as a truck driver, including his years with Western Steele Company, and continued in that work until his retirement in 2000.
He was a man who found happiness in simple and meaningful moments. He enjoyed watching football and gathering with his coffee club each morning. Cooking burgers for his family was one of his favorite pleasures, and he loved spending time visiting family in Mathis, the Valley, New Mexico, and Snyder. He also loved to travel, always glad for the chance to be on the road and with the people he loved most.
Gregorio attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church and will be remembered as a jokester, someone who delighted in doing silly things to make his family laugh. That playful spirit was part of the gift he gave so freely to those around him. Among the moments he held closest to his heart was marrying the love of his life, Emma Moreno Vasquez, on September 19, 1965, in Corpus Christi, Texas. He treasured their time together, especially the simple joy of holding her hand on a road trip, driving a few hours just to go eat.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Emma Moreno Vasquez, and by his son and best friend, Armando Moreno Vasquez.
He is survived by his daughter, Raquel Salazar and her husband, Joe Louis, and by Gregorio Vasquez Jr. and his wife, Frances. May the memories they carry of his laughter, his love of family gatherings, his stories, and his generous heart bring comfort in the days ahead.
Visitation will be held on September 3, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Winsteads' Funeral Home, 121 N Duval St., Mathis, Texas 78368. A Rosary will be prayed there that evening at 7:00 p.m. Mass will be celebrated on September 4, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 217 W San Patricio Ave., Mathis, Texas 788368.
Gregorio B. Vasquez will be remembered with love for his hardworking spirit, his faithful heart, and the laughter he brought into the lives of his family and friends.
