Obituary

Geraldine M. Zambrano, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on July 10, 2026, in Portland, Texas. She was born on July 28, 1949, in Pueblo, Colorado, to Marcelino and Mary Lopez. Geraldine’s life was marked by love, service, and a deep devotion to her family and community.

Geraldine built a meaningful and lasting legacy through her work and her passions. For many years, she was a dedicated member of the team at Driscoll Children’s Hospital, where she worked in Medical Records until her retirement. Her commitment and diligence touched everyone she worked with and contributed meaningfully to the hospital’s mission of care.

At the heart of Geraldine’s life was her family. She is survived by her loving sons, Michael & Irma Lopez and David & Denise Zambrano. Her spirit will live on in her grandchildren: Kayla & AJ Flores, Katlyn & Troi Klabon, Kora & Jacob Carrillo, Ryan & Angelica Gomez Zambrano, and Rebecca & Jesse Gonzalez Zambrano. In addition, she is mourned and remembered by seven great-grandchild & her sister and brother-in-law Pat & Joe Martinez; her brothers and sister-in-laws Frank & Delores Lopez, Jake & Edna Lopez, and Rudy & Rose Lopez; and sisters-in-laws Cynthia Lopez, and Evelyn Lopez.

Geraldine now rejoins those who have gone before her in eternal rest: her father and mother, Marcelino and Mary Lopez; her brothers Harold and Manuel Lopez; her beloved husband, Alejandro Zambrano; her son, Alejandro Zambrano Jr and brother-in-law Jose Luis Zambrano.

Family and friends will remember Geraldine for her warmth, hospitality, and creative spirit. She found great joy in crocheting beautiful gifts for her loved ones and hosting lively BBQ gatherings—a true testament to her love of bringing people together. Among her family’s fondest memories is the delicious Texas Pretzel dessert she would lovingly prepare, a recipe that brought everyone to the table and left lasting memories.

After retiring alongside her late husband, Geraldine delighted in traveling and especially enjoyed their trips to Las Vegas. These vacations held special meaning for her, as they were filled with laughter, new experiences, and cherished moments with Alejandro.

Her faith was a guiding force throughout her life. Geraldine was a proud and devoted member of Immaculate Conception Church in Gregory, Texas. She served faithfully for many years as a choir member and took great pride in contributing to the Sacred Heart organization. The church community was an extension of her family, and her remarkable commitment to service will always be remembered.

Special heartfelt thanks go to Harbor Hospice and Avir Nursing for the compassionate care and support they provided to Geraldine and her family during her final days.

Family and friends are invited to honor Geraldine’s memory and celebrate her life through the following services: Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 16, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., with the Holy Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m., both at Winsteads' Funeral Home, 500 Wildcat Drive, Portland, TX 78374.
