George Benjamin Canales

George Benjamin Canales passed away at the age of 69. He was born on September 19, 1954 and passed away on May 7, 2024. He was born in Portland, Texas to David G. and Concepcion O. Canales. He attended Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church where he served as an altar boy. He graduated from Gregory- Portland High School before enlisting in the U.S. Army.

George was preceded in death by his parents and his older brother Jaime O. Canales. He is survived by his brothers and sisters Belen Mendez, Javier (Irene) Canales, Mario (Elma) Canales, Mary Ann (Joe) Iglesias, Rosalinda (Noe) Martinez, David (Rosa) Canales, Connie (Albert) Leal and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday, May 9, 2024 at Winsteads’ Funeral Home, with the Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 10, 2024 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Portland. Interment will follow at The Palms Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
