It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Frank G. Cortez, a veteran of Vietnam and longtime resident of Portland, TX on May 25, 2025. He was surrounded by his loving family and friends.
Frank was born to Mercy Garcia of Raymondville, Texas on March 31, 1947. He was a graduate of Miller High School class of 1965. He assisted his mother in running the family’s cleaners. Frank began service to his country in the Army in 1966. He was deployed to action in Vietnam. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Bronze Service Star. He toured Germany in 1980 with the National Guard.
After the war, Frank returned home and married his sweetheart of 54 years, Delia on November 21, 1970. They had three children; Jerry, Tony, and Celina, who they raised in Portland Texas. Frank continued his education and was employed for 33 years at Corpus Christi Army Depot as an HVAC Technician until retirement in 2002.
After retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his beloved children, grandchildren and traveling. He also spent time as a crossing guard. Frank was a proud husband, father, grandfather and American Veteran. He was widely known for his quick wit and generous heart.
Frank was reunited with his mother and sister Mercedes Garcia and Gloria Rodriguez, father and mother-in-law Valentine and Julia Ramirez, sister-in-law Rosie Ramirez and brother in laws Juan, Nicolas, Valentine Jr. and Federico Ramirez and Frank Jasso
He is survived by wife Delia Cortez, sons Jerry (Verna) Cortez, Tony Cortez, daughter Celina Cortez, and sister Silvia (Danny) Amaro, Sister in law Maria Jasso, brother in law Manuel (Rachel) Ramirez; Grandchildren Justin Cruz, Jerry Jr, Shannon, Marcus, Joseph, and Kyla Marie Cortez; Great grandchildren Justin Jr and Aiden Cruz; and many loved nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family would also like to extend their deepest gratitude and heartfelt thanks to his caregiver Wendy Seerattan. Thank you for all the love and care you selflessly gave to our dad.
A Rosary will be recited on Wednesday, June 25, 2025 at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, with the mass to follow at 11:00 a.m. He will be laid to rest at 1:00 p.m. that same day at the Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery in Corpus Christi. After the burial there will be a reception in the Perish Hall at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel at 2:00 p.m.
