Ferd Charles Mauch

Ferd Charles Mauch, age 81, passed away on Sunday, November 9, 2014 at his home in Portland, Texas.

Ferd was born July 23, 1933 in Corpus Christi, Texas, to Ferd Mauch Sr. and Ruby Davis Mauch.  He was a 1953 graduate of Gregory Portland High School.  Ferd is a beloved son of our Lord and Savior; he was extremely proud of his faith in God.  He stated “He is happy about dancing on the streets of gold and meeting his Lord and Savior.”  Ferd was loved and respected by all who knew him.  He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend.

Besides his love of the Lord, Ferd loved and treasured his beautiful wife, Peggy, whom with he enjoyed square dancing and country and western dancing.  He enjoyed country western dancing with her in the living room while spinning up his collection of classic country 45’s on the record player.  His love for her was a true inspiration to all who witnessed it.  She was his pride and joy to the end, and even as the hardest of times came calling late in her life, he was always by her side and was just as proud and in love with her, as the day they met.

Ferd also enjoyed spending time at his favorite place at Mauchingbird Hill, in Goliad,TX.  This was his home away from home, and he was truly the happiest when he spent time there with friends and family.

He had impeccable work ethic that he tried to pass down to all his grandchildren.  He was able to show the grandsons the value of hard work by putting them through the rigors of the cotton and grain harvest during his time at McKamey Farms.  Even in his retirement, he was not able to sit still long and Ferd Mauch Lawn Care was born.  He spent his golden years making Portland a beautiful place, one yard at a time.  His customers loved his demeanor and professionalism and the pride he took in his work.  He was known for his gentle soul, soft wit, kindness of heart and tolerance to a fault.  He left an unforgettable impression on all who knew him; he was always there to help someone in need without ever expecting anything in return and never met a stranger.  He had a contagious sense of humor that never left him even through his last moments.

Ferd lived a lifetime correcting people of his name; where in the majority of this paper-work world invariably would switch his name from Ferd to Fred.  Ferd was always so good natured about the auto-correction the world did on his name and probably would have gone unspoken and without correction if he didn’t have a twin brother named Fred which correction could have posed a potential paper snare for both of them.

He is survived by his wife of sixty-one years, Peggy Lavonne Mauch and his children, Michael Charles Mauch (Christie), Brenda Niewoehner (Bill) and Rhonda Cheslak (Walter); his grandchildren, Rodney Cotten, Cass Cheslak, Joshua Ingram, Andria Aguilar, Kacey Cheslak, Misti Cotten, Richard Mauch, and David Wayne Mauch; nine great-grandchildren; one brother, Fred Mauch (Ferd’s twin); three sisters, Jeanne Sorrell (Bill), Edith Eller, and Doris Young; sister-in-law, Bonnie Mauch and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his son, David Allen Mauch and brother, Ronny Mauch.

He has had a wonderful blessed life and is thankful for his family and friends; he loves each one of you and he gives all the glory to God forever and ever.
