Ervin Christopher “Poochie” Pustejovsky passed away peacefully January 30, 2020 at his home surrounded by his family. Poochie was born in Granger, TX on May 14, 1931 to Raymond and Elizabeth Pustejovsky. He served in the Navy for four years and married Margie Bartosh Pustejovsky in 1953. They moved to Taft in 1956 where they built a successful farming operation and were later joined in business by their two sons. He and his wife also started ranching in 1980.
Poochie is preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Elizabeth Pustejovsky, and deceased siblings Raymond, Richard and Joe Pustejovsky. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Margie Pustejovsky, four children: Betty (Stan) Vacek, Jim (Janiece) Pustejovsky, Paul (Maggie) Pustejovsky, Sr., and Kim (Benny) Polasek, seventeen grandchildren, and 35 great-grandchildren. Surviving siblings include Sybil Pustejovsky, Betty Hajda, and Tracy Malone Yates.
Surviving grandchildren include Brandi (Jason) Huf, Chris (Carol) Flemming, Anna (Jason) Custer, Luke (Anne) Vacek, Amy (Cory) Viertel, Jake (Brynn) Pustejovsky, Daniel (Amanda) Pustejovsky, Joey (Sara) Pustejovsky, Mark Pustejovsky, Dustin (Lucy) Pustejovsky, Marie (Dustin) DeVos, Paul (Meagan) Pustejovsky, Jr., Tracy (Sean) Dronen, Sarah (Wesley) Ring, Ervin (Morgan) Polasek, Andy (Lily) Polasek, and Bridget Polasek.
Poochie’s pride and joy was his faith and family. He had a special relationship with each of his grandchildren and cherished every great- grandchild. Many fond memories were created at the ranch hunting and working cattle. He was privileged to have each grandson work beside him on the farm. He enjoyed family time whether it was at holiday celebrations, Lake Corpus Christi, or at a restaurant.
Poochie was an active member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Taft and served in various leadership roles. He was a founding Director of Rincon Water Supply Corporation which was incorporated in 1976. Rincon Water provides drinking water to the rural areas of San Patricio and Aransas Counties. He served on the Texas Rural Water Board of Directors for many years.
The family wishes to express appreciation to special caregivers: Angie Riojas, Edna Saldivar, Naomi Saldivar, Gracie Mata, and Rosie Elizondo.
A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 5th at Holy Family Catholic Church, Taft. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, February 6th at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church, Taft. Burial to follow at Palms Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Portland TX.
