Ernestina Cornejo Sanchez, born on February 4, 1942, in Realitos, Texas, passed away on May 22, 2025, in Mathis, Texas. She was a beloved member of her family and community, known for her hard work and her joyful spirit.

Ernestina dedicated her life to her loved ones and took great pride in her home and yard. Her passion for the outdoors was evident, as she found immense joy in working in her garden and embracing the beauty of nature. She was also a vibrant individual who loved to dance, bringing joy to gatherings with her energy and enthusiasm.

Ernestina is reunited with her parents, Francisca Perez and Juan Cornejo Sr., as well as her brothers, Felix Cornejo and Juan (Josie) Cornejo Jr. and sisters, Senovia and Cristina Cornejo.

She leaves behind her devoted husband, Serafin Sanchez. She is also survived by her son, Arnold (Joanne) Trevino. Her legacy continues through her cherished grandchildren, Courtney (Jorge) Gonzalez, Mykayla Trevino, William (Kalynn) Thompson, and Allison Thompson, as well as her great-grandchildren, Isabella Gonzalez, Carson Thompson, and Reese Thompson. Ernestina is also remembered by her loving sister, Leonila (Joe) Champion, and her brother, Robert (Norma) Cornejo.

Ernestina will be remembered for her unwavering strength, love of family, and passion for life. She touched many hearts and will be profoundly missed by all who knew her.

Visitation will be held from 5 PM until 9 PM on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at Winsteads' Funeral Home, where a Holy Rosary will be recited that same evening at 7 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 AM on Thursday, May 29, 2025, at St. Pius X Mission in Sandia, Texas. Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at Sandia Cemetery.
