Emma LaRue Goldsmith

Emma La Rue Goldsmith, 82, passed away Monday, December 24, 2012 at Coastal Palms Nursing Home in Portland.
La Rue was born on February 9, 1930 in Ira, Texas, the tenth child of ten children. Her family moved to Harlingen, Texas in a Model A Ford shortly after her birth. She married Milton C. Goldsmith in Kingsville, Texas. She was a 1947 graduate of Harlingen High School. La Rue and her family moved from Combes, Texas to Portland in 1966. She served many years as secretary for the Portland Church of Christ where she was a longtime member.
Her three children Lloyd Goldsmith and wife Mary of Abilene, Texas, Dovie Price of Calallen, Texas, and Michael Goldsmith and wife Amy of Portland, Texas survive La Rue. She is also survived by eight grandchildren; Joe Goldsmith of Portland, Texas, Avery Goldsmith of Kingsville, Texas, Jonathan Price of Edmond, Oklahoma, Amanda Gueldner of Calallen, Abigail Harmon of Collieville, Texas, Eleanor Goldsmith of Abilene, Texas, Rhonda Smith of Sandia, Texas and Nelson Goldsmith of Abilene, Texas. Seven great-grandchildren, Tate Price, Cason Price, Mackenzie Fair, Malachi Gueldner, Makayela Gueldner, Luke Harmon, and Sophia Goldsmith also survive her. She is also survived by her long time friend and sister in Christ, Doris Thompson. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the pride and joy of her life. She enjoyed babysitting them; attending their school functions and having them spend the night at her home in Portland spoiling them with special treats.
Her husband, Milton C. Goldsmith, her parents George and Nettie Childress of Harlingen, Texas, as well as five brothers and four sisters preceded her in death.
A private family graveside service will be held at Palms Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are under the direction of Limbaugh Funeral Home.
The family would like to thank Dr. Jerome Lee Sang, the staff at Coastal Palms Nursing Center and Lighthouse Hospice for their care and concern for our mom, Memaw, and friend.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Sunny Glen Children's Home, P.O. Box 1373, San Benito, TX 78586 or online at www.sunnyglen.org
