Elena Trevino Gutierrez

Elena Trevino Gutierrez, affectionately known as NayNay, was born on July 4, 1943, in Mikeska, Texas. She passed away peacefully, at the age of 82, on January 20, 2026, in Corpus Christi, Texas, leaving behind a legacy of love, faith, and strength.

Elena dedicated her life to being a devoted homemaker and home provider, a role she cherished until her retirement in 1997. Her nurturing spirit reached far beyond her immediate family, as she also devoted time to caring for the elderly in her community. Her life was characterized by the beautiful, daily acts of love she extended to everyone around her.

Her children Michael and Mary recall with fondness the countless stories she shared of her childhood, laboring in the cotton fields alongside her siblings and their experiences migrating to Michigan each year. They remember how weather determined their travels, seeking refuge in Uvalde with family during impending hurricanes and storms. Above all, they hold dear memories of her radiant smile, infectious laughter, and unyielding passion for her faith and family. Elena was a cornerstone of strength and wisdom in their lives, nurturing them with daily conversations, heartfelt prayers, and the warmth of her home-cooked meals.

Elena’s cooking was legendary, marked by her ability to create delectable meals with minimal ingredients. Family members often fondly recall their favorite dishes, made special at her hands. She offered soothing advice, lent a listening ear, and prayed for those around her, especially during significant events or trips. Her kindness and compassion knew no bounds, and she instilled in her family the values of humility and gratitude, teaching them that without God, they truly have nothing. Elena was more than just a mother and grandmother; she was a beautiful role model with an inspiring spirit.

Among her interests, Elena found joy in sewing, collecting coins, tending to her plants, and creating homemade blankets. Each Thanksgiving and Christmas, her kitchen would come alive with the delightful aroma of tamales, a treasured tradition she upheld for her beloved family. A lover of novelas, she relished in her evening ritual spent watching her favorite stories. She also loved watching baseball which was her favorite sport, and sharing lively conversations with her cherished grandchildren.

A proud parishioner of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Elena was deeply involved in her faith, serving as a Cursillista, part of the Eucharistic Ministry, and volunteering with the Home Eucharist Ministry. Her faith was a guiding light in her life, and she instilled that passion for spirituality in her children and grandchildren.

Elena is reunited in eternal rest with her beloved son, Lionel Gutierrez; father, Edward Trevino; mother, Romana H. Trevino; siblings, Narciso Trevino, Camila Trevino Amador, Dolores Trevino, Jesse Trevino, Santos Trevino, Benito Trevino, and Maria Trevino; first husband, Lorenzo Gutierrez; and second husband, Jose Romero. She leaves her legacy and memories to her beloved children, Michael T. (Kristina Ann) Gutierrez and Mary Helen Romero; grandchildren, Annette Elaine Gutierrez, Julian Jose Gonzales, John Michael Paiz, Dylan Rae Gutierrez, David Gutierrez III, Luna Grace Cavazos, and Audrey Olivia Gutierrez; siblings, Jose (Maria) Trevino and Maggie (Augustin) Tinajero; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

As her family navigates this profound loss, they wish to express their deepest gratitude to the doctors, specialists, hospital staff, and especially her home health providers, Alma Aguirre and Kimberly Rivas, who not only offered their unwavering support throughout Elena's battle, but also offered their compassionate care and friendship. The family also expresses their heartfelt thanks to Mary Lou, Rosie, and Mr. Bocanegra, whose visits brightened Elena's days.
