Obituary

Dena “Elaine” Morgan, 81, of Topeka Kansas, passed away peacefully on June 24, 2026. She was born on January 22, 1945 in Bee County to William Knox Morgan and Dena Alma “Dobie” Morgan.

She is preceded in death by her parents, William Knox Morgan and Alma Dena Morgan; her sister, Patricia Lena Morgan; and her former husband, Ronald Ewan Morgan Jr. She is survived by her brother William Knox Morgan Jr.; her three children, Ronald Steven Morgan (Diane), William Paul Morgan (Lindsay), and Mundy Michelle Morgan; her grandchildren, Shelly Azevedo, Kristofer Morgan (Mara), Sunday McClung (Cameron), Victoria Morgan (Bruce), Caleb Morgan, Spring Salazar, Grace Morgan, and Sarah Salazar; and great grandchildren, Joshua Morgan, Molly Morgan, Chandler McClung, Sawyer McClung, Seren Morgan, Wyatt Azevedo, Henry Morgan, Aurora Wells, and Eleanor Wells.

Elaine Morgan grew up in Alice TX, graduating from William Adams High School before attending Texas A&I University Kingsville. It was there that she met Ronald Ewan Morgan Jr, whom she married and with whom she raised her three children.

Elaine dedicated herself to her family while pursuing many creative interests. She enjoyed woodworking and tole painting alongside her mother, sister, and cherished cousins. Elaine especially loved social events, family get-togethers, holiday celebrations, and family trips to Garner State Park.

Later in life, Elaine continued her education, obtaining various degrees in Substance Abuse Counseling and Speech Therapy, and a Master’s degree in Special Education. She also taught Special Education, Art and Math for a while.

Elaine was spirited, independent, and determined. When she set her mind to something, she usually accomplished it. She loved connecting with people and rarely met a stranger, whether during her travels to Australia, her college years, or at Bridge Haven Memory Care, where she spent her final days sharing stories with fellow residents and staff, making them laugh.

Elaine’s greatest joy was spending time with family and her many grandchildren and great grandchildren, who all called her “Mamii”. She was known for her generosity, often treating loved ones to dinners, gifts, and special outings.

With a passion for gardening, decorating, and renovating, Elaine had a remarkable ability to see potential where others didn’t. Whether transforming a home, garden, or small project, she approached every vision with determination, hard work, and care, creating something beautiful from what others might have overlooked.

Elaine made a lasting impact on everyone who knew her. She will be missed and remembered not only for her generosity, strength, and independence, but for her unwavering devotion and support to the people she loved.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at 10:30 A.M. at Winstead Funeral Home in Mathis, Texas, followed by an interment at Cenizo Hill.
