"I know little of what is on the other side when I pass from this Earth, but I do know one thing...
I know my Lord is there, and that is enough." -- Dr. Frank Edmund Bonner, III
Dr. Frank Edmund Bonner, III, affectionately known as Dr. Ed, passed away on October 7, 2026, in Corpus Christi, Texas, at the age of 89. He was born on June 2, 1937, in Middletown, Connecticut, and lived a life marked by professional distinction, steadfast devotion to family, and a deep, enduring love of sailing.
Dr. Ed’s path was one of dedication and achievement. He graduated from Pontiac Senior High School in 1955, and continued his studies at Eastern Michigan University, where he earned a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Pre-Dental studies in 1960. He then went on to the University of Detroit School of Dentistry, where he received his Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree in 1964. In 1976, he completed his Endodontic Degree at Boston University Goldman School of Dental Medicine, adding a new chapter to a career already rooted in service and skill.
Dr. Ed practiced general dentistry in Michigan for 11 years before pursuing advanced specialty training in endodontics. After receiving his degree in 1976, he moved to Corpus Christi, where he practiced endodontics from 1976 until his retirement in 1999. Over the course of his career, Dr. Ed earned the respect of colleagues and patients alike through his expertise, professionalism, and commitment to his field. His professional and alumni affiliations reflected both his accomplishments and his loyalty to the institutions and organizations that shaped his life, including the Eastern Michigan Alumni Association, the University of Detroit School of Dentistry Alumni Association, Boston University Goldman School of Dental Medicine Alumni Association, the American Dental Association, the Texas Dental Association, the American Association of Endodontists, the Nueces Valley District Dental Society, and the Bay Area Yacht Club.
Beyond being a dedicated professional in his field, Dr. Ed was also a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. On June 5, 1965, he married the love of his life, Beverly Livingstone Field, at Evergreen Village Presbyterian Church in Detroit, Michigan. Together, they built a loving home and welcomed two children, Eddie and Darren, into the world. To his family, Dr. Ed was a source of wisdom, guidance, and steady love. The advice he so thoughtfully and expertly gave to his children throughout their lives remains among the most cherished gifts he leaves behind.
Dr. Ed found one of the greatest joys of his life on the water. His lifelong passion for sailing began at the age of four around the lakes of Pontiac, Michigan, and remained a defining thread throughout his years. When he moved to Corpus Christi in 1976, that passion continued to grow. He raced continuously from 1976 until his final race in 2023, pursuing excellence in sailboat racing with dedication and passion. Across 47 years in the Corpus Christi sailing community, he shared that passion with countless friends and treasured the very special friendships he formed there with gifted and devoted fellow sailors.
Dr. Ed is reunited with his beloved wife of 54 years, Beverly Livingstone Bonner; father, Frank Edmund Bonner, II; and mother, Dorothy Iola Eveland. He leaves his legacy to his sons, Dr. Frank Edmund "Eddie" Bonner, IV and Darren Scott Bonner; grandchildren, Ashley Nicole Bonner and Christopher Samuel Bonner; brother, William Nelson Bonner; sister-in-law, Sally Bonner; as well as numerous members of extended family and friends. In their lives, and in the lives of all who knew him, his example of dedication, intelligence, and perseverance will continue to be felt with gratitude and affection.
The Bonner family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the nurses, caregivers, and staff at Viera Senior Living Center for the wonderful and attentive care they provided during Dr. Ed's stay. Their compassion brought comfort and support in an important season of his life.
Dr. Frank Edmund Bonner, III will be remembered as a devoted dentist with a beautiful smile, a passionate sailor, a respected professional, and a loving husband, father, and grandfather. His life was one full of purpose, discipline, friendship, and grace, and his memory will remain a blessing to all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A Memorial Service to honor Dr. Ed's memory will begin at 11 AM on Saturday, November 14, 2026, at Winsteads' Funeral Home in Portland, Texas.
"My journey continues with great expectation and unbridled enthusiasm."
