Dorothy Jeanette McNeill Tedder

Dorothy Jeanette McNeill Tedder, age 92, of Portland, Texas, passed away May 12, 2025. She was born September 29, 1932, in San Antonio, Texas, to Arthur Penn McNeill and Lucille Isabelle Valentine Friesen.

She married the love of her life, James C. (Corkey) Tedder III, on June 4, 1950. Prior to retiring she worked in the insurance industry with her husband and daughter, operating the Farmers Insurance Agency in Portland as a family business. Her greatest joy was spending time with family and creating or repairing anything that involved sewing.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and brothers John McNeill, Douglas McNeill, James McNeill, Clarence McNeill, and sisters Shirley Burgess and Barbara Covalt.

Dorothy is survived by her son, James (Jay) C. Tedder IV (Janice) of Cedar Park, Texas and daughter, Roxanne Tedder Swierc (Darryl Sr.) of Portland, Texas. She is also survived by four grandchildren: Darryl Swierc Jr. (Hollie), Chad Swierc (Chelsea), Ashley Tedder, Toree Tedder (Anthony Detmer); six great grandchildren, Macy, Adelaide (Adie), Darryl III (Tripp), Cori, Claire, Camrie and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Visitation with family will be on Wednesday, May 21, 2025 from 5:00-7:00 p.m.at Winsteads’ Funeral Home, 500 Wildcat Dr. Portland, Texas.

Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, May 22, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at Oak Ridge Baptist Church, 2100 Buddy Ganem Dr, Portland, Texas with Pastor Mark Miller officiating. Interment will follow at the Palms Memorial Garden Portland, Texas.

Pallbearers will be James Tedder, Darryl Swierc, Sr., Darryl Swierc, Jr., Chad Swierc, Darryl Swierc III, Anthony Detmer, David Swierc and Thomas Swierc.

The family would like to thank the caregivers from Visiting Angels and Harbor Hospice for the care and compassion shown to Dorothy.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Oak Ridge Baptist Church in memory of Dorothy Jeanette McNeill Tedder.
